I stopped eating grains and immediately felt better. My entire digestive system is happy again! My skin is better. I lost weight. My ankles don't swell. My sinuses are clear. And eliminating grains automatically eliminates most processed food, too. Will it do any of that for you? Who knows? I tried it as an experiment, myself. It feels good to know what is right for me.

We've already started heading in that direction before the book was recommended to us, but haven't completely eliminated all grains. We still consume some sugar, but I've quit the fake stuff....drinking tea and water in place of pop.

This might be a dumb question, but how do you make a meatloaf w/o bread crumbs. Just not make it, right?

I have a friend who has Parkinson's and she's started reading it. Dr. P. mentions the connections with Parkinson's in his book.

You might check into seeing if gluten-free Panko crumbs would work.

I started to reduce my grain consumption these past few months after I read Wheat Belly. My digestive system thanked me!!! I don't worry if I have a little but I stay away from as much as I can; rarely do I get that bloated feeling that plagued me for years!

I'm planning to make meatloaf this week and I think I will follow the recipe for meatloaf muffins from nomnompaleo.com. I think chia seeds and flax flour as well as possibly quinoa may work as binders if this recipe doesn't "pan" out. Quinoa is a grain but I don't think it's as "bad" as wheat, corn, et al.

Hello serenityforever,

I read the book after seeing the author on public television. I had been eliminating grains prior to reading it, but it did reaffirm my thoughts on grain and blood sugar control. There was a lot of information to consider concerning many health issues. I think the author, a neurologist, is definitely onto something and I am glad I read it. Hope you also find information useful to you.

Hi Cat! I also saw him on PBS, and of course I agree about grains! So, maybe since we eat small amounts of carbs, our brain will be happy! I have taken care of several patients with dementia, as a caregiver. Its a terrible illness~ Hi to serenity too, we're all on the same page~Smile

I experiment with different things as binders. I've even made a low carb minute muffin or crumbled a low carb bread and sued those crumbs. I use Parmesan cheese in some recipes to help bind it.

One other unexpected benefit to cutting grains/reducing carbs (for me) is that my reflux completely went away. Mine was terrible and was on prescription medications and had to sleep with pillows to keep my head elevated. No more problems with that no matter how many spices I use

I think it is worth noting that eliminating obvious grains made a difference for me but eliminating beef from grain-fed animals (switched to 100% grass-fed) made a shocking difference in how I felt. My pain level dropped to next to nothing. It is scary to remember that & it keeps me from buying grain-fed beef.

I eat out for lunch sometimes and get a grass fed burger..its always tastes so good. I am quitting buying beef at the store..will only buy grass fed from now on! I never thought about this but it makes sense, thanks!
