I've never had this cyst, but we have had to deal with a hand surgeon. At the time he was the only specialist in our general area. DH had a nerve problem causing much pain in his fingers. Anyway, this man wanted $500.00 for the initial visit, another $500.00 for the initial treatment, and yet another for the follow up afterwards. In all, we spent over $2,000.00 with him, and although we had marginal results, it doesn't justify his inflated charges.
redwingsgal, what is the Bible Buster method?

I wouldn't call those charges inflated when you consider the amount of skill and training a hand surgeon has. The Bible Buster method is simply having someone take a heavy book and slamming it on the cyst as hard as possible.

I have one next to the big joint at the base of my thumb. So far, I'm able to tolerate it. If it becomes too much, I'll have to see a hand surgeon.

I wonder how many broken fingers or other bones people have gotten from the bible buster method?
I agree...I don't think $2000 is all that much. You should try going to a hand specialist where I live and you'd think it was a bargain.

Yes. When I was in high school, one popped up on my right hand wrist. it just kept growing. Surgery was the only way to get rid of it. They are a nuisance. Surgery is the only way I know of for treatment. I had an overnight stay in the hospital. Not sure what causes these to grow. Good luck.

In checking with other hand surgeons who have recently come here, this amount is, as one said, OUTRAGEOUS! Especially the initial charge, just to look. Further, after about five minutes of the first visit, we never saw the surgeon face to face again. The surgeon did nothing but schedule another appointment. On the second visit, a technician looked at his hand, manipulated his fingers for a couple of minutes, and made another appointment for us to come back for some "therapy". Our insurance (and Medicare) refused to pay for those two visits, since nothing was done. I couldn't disagree - a thousand dollars to do nothing but schedule appointments is insane.
I am glad I don't live where you live. I'd have to move on general principles. People here are more sensible. BY THE WAY, THAT DOCTOR CLOSED HIS PRACTICE HERE AND WENT SOMEWHERE ELSE. MAYBE TO YOUR AREA??
