DH has a problem toenail that started when we returned from a trip to Italy.  We had done so much walking that the nail evidently had rubbed against the top of his sneaker too much.  He had very comfy shoes on and it was warm and humid so he even had breathable socks but still came home with a damaged nail.  According to the doctor he has some fungus that has developed.  He said to just soak the foot daily in Epsom salt and apply tea tree oil to the nail bed daily.  Slow, but it seems to be working.

@SaveTheTurtles The doctor is the one who gave the the advice to use Kerasal.

I would make an appointment with the doctor so it can be taken care of properly.

I think I have also heard of using Vicks on toenails but I might be wrong

I've personally had good results with Vicks but recently learned it only works on one type of fungus.  I can't remember the medical name for it, but it appears as white streaks on the toenails.  Vicks won't work on the the orange / crusty / deforming type of fungi.

I had toenail fungus and the dermatologist gave the pharmacy a prescription. The prescription was Flucytosine 500 mg for $2,972.49/copay was $743.00. I nearly fainted when they told me. I was fortunate to qualify for a program that waived the copay. I used two different pills and mixed with a solution.  I usd it for three months and it helped but didn't resolve it.

A close friend said the doctor told her to use vaseline and it worked for her..I think it is very hard to find a permanent solution.

@elated   Wow, those prices are high.

I am glad I got rid of it on my toe with PIGGY PASTE.  I know it has a silly name, but it was compounded by a doctor.

Mine hasn't come back.  That stuff 100% cleared up my horrible problem.  it took a while, but it was worth it....gone for good.

The price was right too.

Hello, have just recently been reading Forums but first time posting.  I, too, have had something very ugly on both big toes for several years now.  Used to get pedicures & kept nails polished until I read if you have a fungus, polish would make it worse. I thought I must have picked up a fungus from nail spa so I stopped getting pedicures.  About 6 months ago made appointment with Podiatrist.  He did a scraping, sent it off & came back showing no fungus.  So, I was pleasantly shocked.  He said he had no answers other than could be from traumatic injury to toes.  I have no idea.  He cut my nails way back & trims them every 3 months.  Said he could take nail completely off if I wanted & I could polish over it like some of his patients do, lol, but I don't think I want to do that.  I would like to mention something very important.  Initially, on first visit, he said if it was a fungus, he had a treatment in pill form.  He also mentioned that if I took Cholesterol medicine that he would not prescribe it as it would damage my liver.  So, I wanted to be sure to mention that.  So, here's to ugly toes & cute sandles this summer, lol.  😂
