Another thing that didn't help, Al Roker had his surgery the same day I did. So DH kept me up with his progress, starting when he sat up right after the surgery. I was laid out flat with a circulating ice water bath enveloping the knee. Cool invention, by the way. Within a couple weeks Al was his old dapper self back on the set of Today. I could barely leave the recliner except to be hauled to PT.

I never could wear heels over 1 1/2 inches ever. I wore flats prior to my double knee replacement. Now I still wear flats to 1 inch heels. Some do recommend trashing all shoes worn prior to your knee replacement due to improper wear when you were walking poorly due to your knee. I do not know how true that is.

I would think that would depend on the individual and you would address the issue with your surgeon or your physical therapist. I haven't had TKR surgery...yet but I doubt that there is a one size fits all answer to the heel question. I' plan to have my knee done next spring and I'm crossing my fingers and praying and hoping that at some point, I'll be able to wear my heels again. My heels are substantial, 2 inch heel.

I am wearing the same shoes I wore before my TKR.
My sister in law had both knees replaced. She loves her heels but was not able to wear them prior to surgeries because her knees were so bad. But now she is fine and back in her heels. However, not as high as when she was younger and a thicker heel, but in heels nonetheless. You will know what you can and can't wear. If you were a person that wore heels, there's a chance you will be able to again, maybe with modification like my SIL.
My recovery was remarkable. I had it done sept 12th. I'm quite shocked it went so well. I was expecting horrorable pain. But I found the pain quite manageable and not too bad a recovery at all.
I'm now ready for the other one, but not untiI I return from Florida, in May. Not because I am not ready to have the other surgery, but because I so enjoy going to Florida for the winter. So I'm going to have to deal with just one bad knee instead of two. Not so bad. I was not able to walk any distance at all. Now I can walk about 1 mile, then the other knee starts hurting. I might get a cortisone shot once I'm in Florida just to get me by for a little.
I wish you a speedy recovery and lots of pretty shoes. Lol

I had both knees replaced at the same time about 5 years ago. I can wear heels, but I've never worn higher than a couple of inches. I usually only wear them to church on Sundays, and not every Sunday if I have another style I prefer. Al Roker must be Superman to have been back at work as usual after two weeks. The doctor told me that kneeling and running are not advised. He's right about the kneeling--it hurts to do that, so I don't. I just had to try it. I never ran before surgery, so I had no intention of trying it after the surgery. Definitely go to all physical therapy appointments.

@Gimmea Break My doctor advised against kneeling, too. Not because it hurt, but because he said that would put unnecessary wear and tear on the knee (which we want to last as long as possible, right?). I have tried kneeling a couple of times and it doesn't hurt at all, but I won't be doing it because I don't want to wear out this knee replacement if I can help it.
