I need to have surgery for a bone spur under my big toe.  Has anyone experianced this? Also, she will "clean out" some arthritis along a small bunion that is beginning to form.  Should be in a boot for 3 weeks or so.  Any tips for recovery?

Re: Foot surgery for bone spur

 Best wishes for a speedy recovery !  I have a bone spur on the inner aspect of my right foot and I have started thinking about making a Ortho appointment because I have shoes and a new pair of  boots I can't wear because the pressure causes severe pain from the spur. As far as the boot goes, just follow the MD's directions and take it easy. I had a torn achilles tendon in 2015, had surgery and was placed in a boot but the boot rubbed against the incision and caused the incision to open so I had repeat surgery.  I didn't have a boot the second time. My heel recovered ok, no further problems. Being type 2 diabetic at that time with elevated blood sugar was thought to be a possible cause for the problem.  Again best wishes, take it easy, that's my best advice.

Yes - been suffering with a spur in heel.  Dr suggested getting Vonic slippers - after weeks it has improved...some shoes no pain --barefloors still slight discomfort.  I have high arch.  It was very painful!

Yes bare floors are the worst.  I have been using the little circle like bandaids which have helped alot.  I have very flat feet.  This is an optional surgery but it's been about 1 1/2 years now and it is getting old (and worse) so I think time to get it fixed.

Re: Foot surgery for bone spur

@bargainsgirl Drugs and darn good ones!

Never mind the Tylenol!

I had both mine done at the same time..

Not smart on my part but I insisted,

First night was horrible burned like crazy..

After that wasn't bad, I learned to walk on my heels, with the help of crutches it wasn't bad,,, I did manage to go with just Tylenol the next day.

Just keep your foot up on a pillow, it does help...

Best of luck & try to have a nice holiday;

Re: Foot surgery for bone spur

Fifteen months ago (Oct 2021) I had a bone spur removed from the inside of my fourth toe and had my fifth toe straightened to prevent it from coming back, and I’m still suffering from pain and numbness 24/7. I’m starting physical therapy next week. I would not get my fifth toe straightened if I had it to do all over again.
