My feet are the Greek shape and predisposed to bunions.  My right foot really has one.  I wore heels as a high school teacher.

I always thought I had a bunion but dr said no 🤷‍♀️.

I think from the chart I'd be a roman style foot.

I wore steel toe work boots for a long time when I worked in the jail then when switched to administration I wore high heels, pumps - my poor aching feet even back then😉.

I also have this problem with the big toe on my right foot migrating under my second toe.

Before seeing the podiatrist, I tried every toe straightener known to man.

The podiatrist did talk about surgery but the procedure and recovery was more than I wanted to endure.

She recommended a toe straightener = BUDIN Double Toe Straightener by Pedi Fix.  I tried a cheaper version but that did not work for me either.

The recommended toe straightener is perfect and   I wear it every day.  I walk two miles a day and it's very comfortable.

This has been a good solution to surgery for me.

Thank you I'm going to look into buying that mainly because joint replacement surgery is a very big decision and frankly, worrisome about all the after effects.

@homedecor - I had surgery to four toes, two on each foot. My surgery was done at Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC. The doctor who did my surgery performs procedures on members of American Ballet Theater & sport teams in the area. I did not get a second opinion in his case due to his reputation but met some of his patients in the course of my career.

I insisted on having both feet done at the same time which he was reluctant to do & advised against it but I insisted upon it.

The surgery wasn’t painful & I had screws inserted & tendon transfers. The immobility was difficult & I didn’t have a boot but a bulky protective shoe for about 6 weeks, then, graduated to sneakers. I was on “no weight bearing” used a walker & only got up to use the BR for the first two weeks. It wasn’t easy & I was working at the time so missed work but I never regretted the surgery & my toes look great & now feel good in shoes. It was very difficult wearing a closed toe shoe before surgery as my toes rubbed on the top of my shoes. Plus I was actually walking on a twisted toe under the other.

I say go for the surgery & get a second opinion from another orthopedist. Many podiatrists are wonderful but for this type of surgery, imo, should be done by an orthopedist. Mine was basically reconstructive. I know I had four toes done on different feet but be aware you will be immobile for a period of time. As far as post operative pain, I had very little but a lot of swelling for a while.

Thank you for your clear and concise information.  I spoke to the surgical assistant today seems the recovery and aftercare isn't that bad.  I will wear a boot for 4-6 weeks but will have to go to see him 1x/week for check and bandage change.  

Apparently, this is a surgery performed a lot with good results.  (I hope I'm not one of the unlucky ones😉).
