Flu shots- for those who DO get one

When do you usually get yours?

I've noticed places already advertising the shot and it's just late August.

We typically get ours in mid to late September. We get it at our local grocery store, Publix, and will definitely get it there this year as they're offering a $10 Publix gift card if you get a flu shot there. Since we're going to get the shot anyway, I'll be happy to accept two gift cards.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I saw the Publix gift card offer also but the last 2 years I tried to get my flu shot at Publix and they were 2 busy. I have a doctor friend so that office just gives me my flu shot. I do get it every year.

I got mine in late August/early September last year.  My NP suggested that I wait until early-mid October.

Re: Flu shots- for those who DO get one

While I was working in hospitals they were pretty close to mandatory. We typically got them in very late September into October. The last few years it was mid-October.

Flu season lasts into Feb/Mar and if you get a flu shot too early its protection is starting to wear off by the time you might really need it.

Last year I got one in mid September because I happened to have a doctor's appt. This year I won't, so will get one at CVS and will shoot for like Oct 5-15 as the mood strikes me. I think they give a $25 GC. The signs are already up, but I feel it's too early.

I will get mine as soon as possible! The RITE Aide had them all set up on FRIDAY.

Re: Flu shots- for those who DO get one

I usually get one every year.  I didn't last year and I didn't get sick.  I'm not out very much and am very, very careful.

My Drs have always said to not get it real early in the season.  It's true it needs a little time to work, but they've all said many people get them too early in the season.

Just telling you what my Drs have always told me.  The other day at the CVS pharmacy the people were calling to me to come get my shot.  I said, "What?  Do you guys get a cut on how many you sell?"  Kidding!  Good grief!  I thought they were going to come out of the pharmacy place and haul me behind the screen!

I haven't decided if I am going to get one yet.  I probably will because I have a problem with my blood, but I still don't know yet.

Re: Flu shots- for those who DO get one

I usually get mine mid-October and the last few years I

have gone to CVS without any problems. Prior to my retirement in 2015, I used to get mine at work.
