I have bad fibroids and am in perimenopause. Sometimes I'll go 100 days without a period, some times it's only 12 days. I seem to average about 6 periods a year now for the past 2 years.

When I have a period it often seems like an inordinate amount of flow. I have to change sanitary protection every hour and sometimes more often than that to avoid accidents, and even then, sometimes accidents occur because the flow is so heavy!

My doc is fully aware of the situation and is not concerned. She's given my my options which are live with it, take some kind of medication to stop the flow, or surgery. I am also not concerned. I do not want to alter nature with medication and I sure don't feel like I need surgery just to "correct" an inconvenience that happens only about 6 times a year (sometimes it's an embarassing one though). This is nature and I figure I have only a few more years to deal with it and then it's done.

But I have a question for those who may be experiencing this. What do you use/do for protection? I use heavy duty maxi pads but still within an hour I can flood them. Anyone have anything you use to prevent accidents? I can sometimes literally feel the flow coming out in spurts. It's all normal, but it's inconveninent and I'm just not willing to take medicine or undergo surgery for an inconvenience that will go away in a few years. But I would welcome any suggestions for protection in the remaining time that I need protection.
