NIH is a rock sold source for information on drug studies.

To me the post was just sharing an interesting study and not suggesting that everyone should be taking Pepsid.

There must be something there there bc it is included in the preventative care for some individuals. It's part of the COVID cocktail.

You're correct. If adults are dumb enough to take every little pill everyone on the internet suggests then maybe they need to be cared for and not allowed to care for themselves without supervision.

@Toppers3   It's available right now on Amazon.  I just ordered a good supply.  Just recently reappeared after the run on it.  Yesterday I noticed it listed as an ingredient in the experimental "cocktail" they're giving CoVi19 patients, or one in particular.  That probably means the run will be on again.

Ever since a notable government offiicial contracted Covid-19, he was supposedly getting this for the virus, there has been a run on Famotidine (Pepsid).  My local drugstore is totally out of it.

Well, there is this study:  https://hartfordhealthcare.org/about-us/news-press/news-detail?articleId=28305&publicid=497

I take a ppi, but I keep Pecid Complete for times when I have breakthrough issues. It was the only thing that seemed to work.  It was off the shelves for a couple of years awhile back (way before Covid) for some reason.  I was so glad to see it back on the shelves.

the results of the recent cohort study in New York were promising. The study showed that famotidine use was associated with reduced risk for intubation or death among hospitalized COVID-19 patients (adjusted hazard ratio 0.42, 95% CI 0.21–0.85) [4].https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7324004/

"This retrospective study found that, in patients hospitalized with COVID-19, famotidine use was associated with a reduced risk of clinical deterioration leading to intubation or death. The study was premised on the assumption that use of famotidine represented a continuation of home use, but documentation of why famotidine was given was poor. The results were specific for famotidine (no protective association was seen for PPIs) and also specific for COVID-19 (no protective association in patients without COVID-19). A lower peak ferritin value was observed among users of famotidine, supporting the hypothesis that use of famotidine may decrease cytokine release in the setting of SARS-CoV-2 infection. A randomized controlled trial is currently under way to determine whether famotidine can improve clinical outcomes in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 (NCT04370262)."

It's ordinary Pepcid which is an acid reducer I take every day for acid reflux.  I wish people would quit spreading rumors about it preventing/curing CoVi19.  This went around last spring and I was unable to find it anywhere for several months.  I need it badly.  I seriously doubt it has any effect on the virus.

So doctors who have concluded that this widely available generic drug is likely to help their Covid patients should forgo prescribing it because you "seriously doubt it has any effect on the virus"?

I've taken this for years as prescribed by my doctor.  They were touting this months ago for the virus and then I couldn't even get my prescription!  Every time they put this on the news, everybody goes nuts and buys it up and then I can't get the medicine I should have!  Ridiculous.....

I have taken famotidine for years and always need to have it on hand. I did order 200 from Amazon this morning.

Is my need any more important than anyone else's need? I don't think I should determine that. I won't fault anyone for stocking up in these uncertain times.
