Lots of talk about this acid reducer on fb, about covid 19,how could it help with this virus?

It's being repurposed to use as an antiviral drug and is not being used as an acid reducer for covid patients. Famotidine has been shown to interfere with the virus reproduction cycle by blocking a cellular enzyme needed to complete that cycle, resulting in lower viral loads.

Quite interesting i find it. Would not had thought of using it for this virus.

It's ordinary Pepcid which is an acid reducer I take every day for acid reflux. I wish people would quit spreading rumors about it preventing/curing CoVi19. This went around last spring and I was unable to find it anywhere for several months. I need it badly. I seriously doubt it has any effect on the virus.

That is what i am trying to find out, if it is true,or not.

The paper @SilleeMee provided did not say conclusively whether it does anything one way or another. It said it was an avenue for scientists to explore, based on one set of anecdotal observations. It also said there may be risks to taking antacids because it is possible they increase the Covid GI infection aspect of the disease by inhibiting stomach acid.
If you want to take this, I'd say ask your doctor about it and go with their guidance.

Exactly. @Porcelain Nothing so far is confirmed nor has it's use as an antiviral been established as being safe and w/o side effects. It's just too soon to say.

Like i said fb was just alive with this last night,i thought WHAT?, so i asked on here, from what i have found the study was very small, so there you go.

@Kachina624 You are 100% correct. No proof it's an anti viral. Too much bad info out there.

I remember this too, and some of us were posting about it here on the forum.
I also had trouble finding it, both physically in the stores and online.
I couldn't seem to find it anywhere.
I was buying the over-the-counter plain, generic Famotodine.
I ended up having to get a prescription from our doctor for it, rather than trying to find the OTC version.
When my prescription comes up next month for renewel, I'll have to see if it's available again or not.
