I had the most interesting procedure done on my right eye this morning. The doctor used a laser to help relieve the pressure in my eye. Drops are no longer effective. He pointed that thing toward my eyeball and fired away. I kept humming the theme to Star Wars in my mind.
It was painless and simple. If you have pressure issues do not be afraid. I will need Prednisone drops for the next five days to keep down swelling. No need for antibiotics since there was no cutting. The nurse did a quick check 30 minutes after the procedure and my pressure had dropped ten points.Yay! The doctor was hoping for five. I hope it stays this low and doesn't rebound later.
In two weeks he will do the other eye. I am excited that maybe my runaway pressure has met its match.

@On It. I just had a deep gum cleaning/treatment where they used a laser to kill bacteria. Also no cutting but it wasn't fun.

I had the laser treatment for floaters the middle of last month. I was a bit frightened of it so I delayed doing it but the floater was really bothersome.
It did not hurt as stated your laser treatment did not.
I will be seeing the doctor next week to see what he thinks.

@On It If you are talking about the Yag laser procedure I had it done on both eyes, some time apart, and used drops for a few days afterwards.
It was totally painless, didn't take long, and was no big deal as you know by now

I had that done quite a few years ago. It seems like it just took a couple of minutes and when he was done I didn't even know he had started.

I do not know the name of the procedure. They may have told me, and I didn't process what was said. I am impressed that the procedure was so simple. I did not want something invasive done on my healthy eyes. Then reality set in. My eyes were not healthy. They needed help from something more than ineffective eye drops. (Not completely ineffective. My eyelashes are long and dark.)

@kze Every time he used the laser it made a sound and there was a flash of light. That was why I was thinking of Star Wars and the sounds their lasers made when they were fighting off an attack.
I am thoroughly impressed with the procedure and the results.

I guess I expected him to tell me when he was ready to zap my eye so I wouldn't move it. I didn't know until later he had some kind of clamp on it so I couldn't move it.
That's cute about the Star Wars thing.

I've had the YAG procedure done. That's for the secondary cataract than can form after cataract surgery. I believe it's different than the procedue to reduce pressure.
@On It - were you able to drive yourself home from the appointment?
My opthamologist has discussed the possibility that we may want to consider doing this at some point due to elevated pressure that developed after I had surgery to repair a detached retina. So far there's been no change to my field of vision, but he's seeing some potential issues with the optic nerve. Right now we're in the "watching it" stage.

@Zwervend The surgical scheduler told me I could drive myself home, there were no special restrictions, and no preparation. All I did was appear for the scheduled time. I could have driven myself, but my husband drove. My eye felt numb from the drops which seemed odd. My vision was clear enough to drive.
