On 3/31/2026, the FDA issued a recall of about 3.1 million bottles of eye drops because of the possibility they are not sterile. There don't seem yet to be cases of injury; the recall is based on discovered manufacturing problems. It seems to be generic and brand name bottles of artificial tears sold at many places including CVS, Walgreens, Kroger, Harris Teeter, Rite Aid, Publix, etc. You can find details on the internet and the full, long list on the FDA's website.

scary stuff ! I use artificial ears everyday and sometimes think about that.

This is scary. I wake up with dry eyes and have discovered that if first thing I mist my face with either La Roche Posay thermal spring water or Evian spray it does wonders for my eyes.
I spritz, lightly run my hands over my face and closed eyes, and instantly feel awake and can see better from that morning dry phase I have waking up.
You might try that--does wonders for my eyes, face and neck and general wakeup every day. I don't know of any issues or recalls with that.
