At one time I used Medco, which is somehow part of Express S and it was hands down the worst customer service I have ever dealt with.  Beyond horrible.

DH is on several regular medications and they are all filled through Express-Scripts.  So far, knock on wood, we have never had an issue.  We have been using them for years.

I have mailed in scripts to them in years past and 2 of DH's doctors electronically transmit scripts to them, all without issue.  However, they are not done a year at a time.  Under his insurance, he can get a 90 day supply with 3 refills.  After that, new scripts have to be sent in again.

@NickNack - ES is the insurance company and they also fill through the mail, at least that's how ours works.

The only reason I would ever consider using the mail service if I needed to  is for the convenience.  The savings is a joke and not worth it from what I'm reading here about refill issues.

@CelticCrafter I didn't realize that.  I've heard of Express Scripts, but always just thought it was a mail order pharmacy.

@NickNack, Express-Scripts is a mail order pharmacy.  I don't know anything about them being an insurance company.  DH and I have our insurance through Medical Mutual.  The mail order pharmacy they are required to use for long term meds is Express-Scripts.  Anytime a med is filled through ES for us, it's run through our insurance and paid by our Medical Mutual.

Thanks @Lipstickdiva.  That's what I thought.  A friend of mine uses Express Scripts, and it's just their pharmacy.

They messed me up with Ambien...My doctor ordered a 3 month refill and I called Express Scripts and verified it with them - all was good... My refill was to be sent in October so I called two weeks before it was to be sent and was told all was good...When the day came for the pills to be sent out I got an email saying there was a delay and the doctor had to call it in...Prescription was old after they just told me days earlier it was all set to mail out.... They are so crazy there - who are their employees... Now at this time I am without Ambien for several days and not sleeping at all - getting withdrawl symptoms...Called my doctor and told them Express Scripts wasn't working for me anymore - so the doctor called my Ambien to the pharmacy and had my pills that day... Done with them...

I had nothing but problems with them, so I stopped.

I am with express script and like it for it comes to my house and don't have to ask someone to pick it up for me. The drugstore irritated me by calling way before it was time. CV

@Lipstickdiva - as I said, for us it's both.  I can take my ES card to any pharmacy, CVS, Walgreens, supermarket and have any script filled for what our co-pay is, including maintenance drugs.  If we want to save a penny or two on those drugs then we can get them through the pharmacy part of ES if we need them.

I was confused by the posts saying Express Scripts was a medical insurance card as well as a drug card, so I went to their website.  It sounds like it's just a drug card.  It mentions Medicare Part D, which is for drugs only.  You can take the card to any pharmacy or fill it through their website, but your doctor wouldn't accept it as a medical insurance card.  You would have to have your medical insurance through someone else.

Express Scripts is a mail order pharmacy. Not a card.
