@hckynutI so agree, I had a bad fair up of musculoskeletal and TMJ problems 2 winters ago ,I don't know what I would have done without PT. My insurance paid for as much PT as I needed and I also did exercises at home. You absolutely have to keep moving no matter what your problem is. 5 minutes of PT is better than nothing, but you need at least a half hour IMO to see a difference. Also, not all PT workers are hands on these days. I had a fabulous PT gal and I felt like I was floating out of that treatment on a cloud. I would have paid for the therapy myself if insurance didn't pay.

I agree with @blackhole99 and @hckynut
I would take all the PT sessions your insurance will provide.
My MAP uses a company to manage PT services. They will only pay for x amount of visits. I paid for the remainder out of pocket.
I work out three times a week at the gym where I had therapy.
The therapist treated my condition and helped me develop an exercise plan.

@ScrapHappy If your doctor is in network he should be charging you what is "reasonable and customary" for your area. PT, go get the exercises they want you to do and check in with them weekly or monthly. Going 3 times a week takes a lot of your time plus $$$.

I'd be finding a new doctor or learn the excercises and do them at home for free for the rest of your life.
Does he have some sort of connection to the PT facility?

Yes. They have their own PT Department

@ScrapHappyI feel that Physical Therapy can be a very good option after an injury, but also after learning the excercises some can be accomplished at home. I know many insurances will only cover PT for a short time. Do your homework on what will work for you and make sure you have an MD/Surgeon you feel comfortable with. There's nothing wrong with getting a second opinion. I'm a retired clinical prison RN and have seen alot of great Docs and a whole lot of careless ones, again research those MD's it's so important.

I agree! Last time I had PT my co-pay was $25.00 a visit. Adds up pretty quick when you are going 3X a week! If I need it now, the co-pay would be $30.00 a visit.

Get a 2nd opinion. Hard to know what to say about PT. But, 3 times a week is a lot! Get more opinions from MD's.

I can't answer your questions about the cost of your procedure. Mine weren't that much last year. I have a lot of pain for the last 4 or more years. I have several degenerating thorasic discs and other stuff in my back.
I went for MRI and then spine specialist last fall. He sent me for PT. I don't want shots or more pills till I have no other choice. After it was finished I found some great chair yoga video on Youtube. It's better and relieves my pain better than PT. I have to do it every day though so I don't get all stiff again. They have a lot to choose from over there. Plug in senior chair yoga. Sherry Zak Morris is excellent yoga instructor.
