Has anyone had or known someone to have severe edema after knee replacement surgery? My aunt had her knee replaced a week ago and in the hospital was doing well (surgery on a Friday, discharged on the following Tuesday). Well she is home with PT and a nurse who comes to do blood work as she is on Coumadin due to a history of DVT in her legs. Anyway, she has so much edema in her leg that she has two blisters on the top of her left foot. The doctor prescribed Lasix but she doesn't seem to think it is really working as she is not running to the bathroom as often as she thinks she should be and her leg is still swollen.
I worry because if there is fluid in one part of your body, there is a good chance that it can work it's way around the heart and/or lungs.
