@BalletBabe wrote:@Nightowlz I am not sure what you mean about running??? The only times my eyes ran, is if I am having a major allergy attack. I think mine were so dried up that I didn't have anything to run. LOL
I had to laugh when I read that this is a problem with the elderly. I have had dry eyes since I can remember. I do believe it is a lot from anti histamine. He has me flushing out my sinuses with saline and then using Flonase. It helps a lot, but man I hate the saline! I trust my Dr. so I will do it.
Oddly, a dry eye problem can sometimes cause watery eyes, because the eye produces excess tears to combat the irritation and dryness.
This is what my eyes do all day long. They are so watery in the morning I can hardly see. It takes several hours in the morning for my eyes to calm down. Even after that I'm constantly wiping the corners of my eyes since they are running. When it was worse I also had a lot of burning, redness & grittiness.
The eye doctor told me it was dry eyes. I also have dry mouth & dry nose. Stinks!!!!!!!!

@Nightowlz I am sorry that you have that, but I cannot compare myself to your problem, because I never had any eye water issues. Sounds miserable. Do you take anti histimines? Drink lots of water because dry mouth with rot your teeth. I think there is something you can buy at walmart for dry mouth. You know Phamacists are much more educated with these drugs. I personally feel my Pharmacist is more important then my Dr. I always call her and ask her questions. I have worked for Dr's and Pharmacists and I can tell you that the Phamacists know more about meds then these Dr.'s. Rx's are a money making racket. If people knew how the Dr.'s will push pills because they get a cut back on them. The problem is they don't always prescribe what is low cost. They are given gifts and trips etc. for these Pharm reps.

I have the beginnings of macular degeneration, and both my opthamologist and the retinal specialist he sent me to for another reason, have strongly recommended I take a vitamin supplement under the brand name of AREDS II.
It contains heavy doses of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc, Copper, Lutein, Zeaxanthin.
A similar vitamin supplement is being advertised on TV under another name for the same issue.
It's not supposed to cure macular degeneration, but will slow it down and help preserve vision over time, according to my doctors who recommend it. (And believe me, I've questioned both of them thoroughly, because the amounts of the vitamins and minerals in those large capsules, plus the dose recommended, are awfully high, and I take other supplements, too. which contain some of the same thing.)
My opthamologist says there is no other known way to protect our eyes, except through use of sunglasses to block harmful sun rays.
I am taking a more moderate dose (half of what is recommended on the bottle), so either I'm being prudently cautious or sabotaging the benefits that this supplement are supposed to provide.
A chiropractor on the radio (at least around here) addressed macular degeneration one day and claimed he took this type of supplement and it "cured" his eye problems.
Hmmmmmm..............He also goes so far as to say that "he will become our best friend" for recommending this concoction. He wasn't advertising a specific brand of the supplement, but wholeheartedly thinks the formulation has saved his eyesight.
Who knows for sure about anything like this?????
Andrew Lessman has 2 different Eye Support products with Lutein & Zeaxanthin both in his formula. 1 has 10 mg Lutein per 2 capsules & the other has 12 mg per 2 capsules.
His eye products have more lutein & zeaxanthin than the Areds II products.
He says his has more Lutein than any supplement out there.
I have been taking it & noticed a difference in my eye site.

I take a sinus pill or benadryl here & there as I don't like they way they make me feel. I don't know which is worse taking those pills or just dealing with it.
All I drink is water so I do drink a lot. Since it's hot now I'm drinking 80 oz plus every day. Sometimes as much as 128 oz.
So far I have not had any issues with my teeth. I did not know I had dry mouth until the dentist told me.
I only take NP thyroid for my thyroid.
I know how doctors push pills but not on me they don't. Every time the doctor tries to prescribe something I tell him I don't need it. He thinks I need to take a statin & I told him No Thanks. My levels are fine IMO.
Unless I absolutely need it I'm not taking it. I won't even take an antibiotic unless I have to. I refused it when I was told I had walking pneumonia. Since I did not feel sick I felt it was not necessary. The doctor said it would go away on it's own it would just take longer so I said well I'm fine with that. LOL!!!
He told me I have patients come in here daily wanting antibiotics that they will not work for & you come in here really needing them & refuse them???

@Katcat1 wrote:@BalletBabe What does your blood have to do with it? I need more explanation to understand this procedure, please. There is an auto-immune disease that can give a person dry eyes. Off hand I don't remember the name but because I have rheumatoid arthritis my dr. will ask me from time to time if I have dry eyes.
@Katcat1, I know Sjogrens syndrome is one of those diseases.

@BalletBabe, so glad you found a solution. Some of these chronic issues can be so annoying. Great relief to you I’m sure! LM
