According to two doctors I've seen, PPIs are not intended for long tern use and can cause significant damage to either kidneys or liver (can't remember which). Information on Google is not a figment of imagination. It comes from professional journals and other publications. There are always multiple sources. It's very reliable.
After tests, I was advised to get off PPIs and not use them again. I then did fine on a simple acid reducer.

They are called Proton Pump Inhibitors, FDA does warn that the use of PPI's can cause a reduction in the absorption of calcium and can increase the risk of breaking hip, wrist and spine.

@I am still oxox. Pepcid is the most well know brand name but there are many generics with the same formula using Famotidine. Also try to avoid high acid food like salad dressing, sauerkraut, coffee, pickles, etc.

I had some one tell me that Dr Google says that Protein Pump Inhibits can cause Osteoporosis. I wish people would get their medical info from MD's and not the Internet

That’s odd. You are always asking for medical advice on here.

There have been news articles linking the two, but according to my Dr., at least at the time of the news articles that reported on it, there was no cause/effect correlation. At the time he was surprised that I was the only patient of his to bring it up.
After 2 choking incidents and being scoped as well as ballooned, the surgeon doing the procedure suggested that I stay on the PPI. Currently, there is no indicadtion of osteoporosis. But, I also exercise which is also important for bone health.
