They call them Boutique Practices and they are growing in popularity.  But they are expensive and no, there is no way that a practice can help anyone get a "good insurance plan" whatever that means.  They aren't in the insurance game anymore and that's not what any physician group practice can or would do, even if they could. Also, every insurance has a generally 8 month waiting period so if you needed surgery immediately,  you wouldn't be covered for it during the waiting period.  Sounds like that doctor is blowing smoke  and telling lies to get patients for his practice.    Also, you said he doesn't accept insurance.  Medicare is insurance so, you would have to pay him out of pocket.

$800 a month for health insurance is absurd? Surely there's a plan on the marketplace that's cheaper. How can anyone afford rent after paying $800 for insurance?

This is very interesting.  I wonder how he is doing this with the high cost of malpractice insurance?  When you become a "member" are you giving up your rights to sue?

Because something got loss in translation.  I don't think OP understood it at all.  If not, the poor guy wll be out of business in a month.  The $75 a month is just the buy in.  You pay that whether you use the service or not but if you have to see a doctor, you DO indeed have to pay for that office visit.  You pay for all of your office visits and you pay much more than you would pay at a regular physician's office.  That's how Boutique Practices can offer a high level of care and immediate access; they can do it because their patients are willing to pay a lot of money for it.  Good grief, if it worked the way OP says, the doctor would be living in box under a bridge and eating cat food...lol  Because he wouldn't be making any money....lol   He'd be seeing patients in the train station because he couldn't afford an office....lol

@Reever, you could move to AL and find out.  There is nothing but the 3 ACA options (Bronze, Silver, & Gold) if you have to buy your own insurance.  And only one company, although wnen there were more companies they were all the same price becuause they all have to cover the same things.  The $800+ is for the bronze plan with no subsidies.   Of course, if you're not middle class you can get subsidies to lower the price.  I actually have a friend who works for herself and manipulates her hours so that she doesn't make enough money to put her over that threshold.  As with most government plans, no matter how much they talk about sticking it to the rich, they stick it to the middle class.  There is no party that's really looking out for us.

A concierge primary care is not a substitute for insurance because you may need a specialist, and, I beleive, does not cover all the tests you may need..
