Spot weight loss is a myth. You can't target where the weight will come off but you can target building muscle in areas where you want to look more toned by exercising those muscles. Increasing muscle strength in specific areas will tighten that area so it will appear more trim.

@Trinity11   You are correct about the horomonally induced weight gain. I did not have any babies, so my issue is not caused by pregnancy...I am 70 this year and typically always had a thin waist, no belly bulge....just in the last 2-3 years have I noticed this change in my body.

I am finding I feel a little uncomfortable.

I recently began a walking routine again.  I am doing it because I need to be more active, not for weight loss.  During the brief lockdown we had during Covid, we weren't going out to eat.  That also meant less alcohol intake.  I was walking then and my middle section slimmed down fast.

I don't know if you drink alcohol, but that could be a detox you may want to try.....at least for awhile.

I am hoping to reduce my middle section by walking regularly again.

As far as the weight guide, at 5'6'' I have been as low as 112 and as high as 137.  I actually had more muscle mass when I was 137.  I was much younger and exercised alot.  I am at around 118 now.  I recently went off my thyroid meds (that is whole other story) so I am keeping a close watch on my weight.  I am not concerned if I gain a few pounds because I feel the best I have felt in a couple of years.

Good luck with your walking plan, @Mom2Dogs .  Once you get started, you will look forward to it as part of your day.  Can your husband go with you?  Mine is walking with me and we are enjoying it.  We don't take the dog for this walk because he wants to stop too much to smell....lol.

@Trinity11 I have followed some of your comments about your dear husband and his struggles.  You both are in my prayers.

Fear not Brothers and Sisters! I have read THE BOOK..........we win!!!

@Trinity11   Drinking...I can't hold my liquor, one drink and I am under the table, or on top of it, lol.

I do enjoy walking, I work 3 days a week - so some days it just does not work for me but I did a nice walk a few days ago...there just always seems to be something else to do..last week I wanted to finish up a small piece of furniture I was painting, so that took priority.   I can't paint furniture when it gets really hot or humid.  It' all done now and sitting in the house.

I do not like to walk with my DH....I leave him in the dust, always have, even when we were younger.  It is not a productive walk if he goes along.  We do walk our dog together in the evenings.

I do spend a lot of time outside working in my yard, on my days off, not the same kind of exercise as a brisk walk but I try to stay busy....
