Re: Desperately needing help for hot flashes.

Watch your diet. For example, even organic dairy items can cause increased body heat. Eliminate all dairy (cheese, milk, etc.) Also, spicy foods can also contribute (think salsa, chili, etc.) It just depends on your body. Try to eat as pure as possible, avoiding preservatives, food colorings, etc.

A natural remedy is "Sepia", & also "Lachesis" (depending on your needs). They are pellets that dissolve in your mouth (Boiron brand- at fine health stores). You can research them, & how to take them. There's a method- take 15 min. before or after food- avoid any mints, even in toothpaste, etc. I use natures Gate Anise toothpaste. Mint diminishes the effectiveness of homeopathic meds. They are easy to take, with NO side effects.

Re: Desperately needing help for hot flashes.

Thank you for the reminder that I've been remiss taking my Ultimate Womens Wellness product from Andrew Lessman! My hot flashes have been terrible lately- I was thinking it was me being out of shape in warmer weather. But it was my hot flashes moreso. I'm back on my regimen now! Andrew's supplement really helps.

Re: Desperately needing help for hot flashes.

visit your doctor, he can probably prescribe something to help, and adjust according to what you can take and what works for you. Other than that, hand fans, cold clothes.

Re: Desperately needing help for hot flashes.

I take the only things that have effectively helped my bad night sweats and hot flashes:

*Evening primrose oil: Source Naturals - 500 mg - every 8 hours (3xs/day)

*L-Glutamine: Source Naturals - 500 mg. - once daily

BTW, I can't tale black cohosh due to my high blood pressure.

Both are available for great prices at Amazon.com, and both have bonus benefits that help both your inner and outer health (& looks!).

HTH & good luck. Smile

Re: Desperately needing help for hot flashes.

I am not big on estrogen as I had ill side effects from it that could have been life threatening had I not caught it when I did. Maybe this has been mentioned .....but changing to all cotton clothing really helped me.....especially at night. I bought nighties with deep cut arm holes and cotton panties too! Wear sandals if you can in hot weather and loose fitting clothing. No bands around the arms like you find on polo shirts. Cotton dresses are cooler than slacks or shorts. Basically, anything that breathes and lets the air in. I have tried other things and they just didn't work for me so I had to change my lifestyle and avoid the heat as much as I can.

I am 51 and in perimenopause. I recently started having the hot flashes that were interrupting my sleep. I had heard that Black Cohosh was supposed to help so ordered some to try and I can honestly say that it has helped so much that I don't even notice the hot flashes anymore! I am definitely going to keep taking it since I don't want to go the HRT route. Here is a link to the one I tried https://www.swansonvitamins.com/natures-blend-black-cohosh-160-mg-120-caps and another that I'll probably try next time I order (the reviews are really good & has a higher dose) https://www.swansonvitamins.com/swanson-premium-black-cohosh-540-mg-60-caps

Take care ... I hope you can find some help!

Thanks for this info. I am perimenopause, and I am starting to get a few hot flashes at night. I have heard of this, but the liver "issues" (possible one) scare me a bit. But thanks!

<h3 style="margin: 0px 0px 12px; font-size: 15px;">What are the risks of taking black cohosh?</h3>
  • Side effects from black cohosh include headaches and upset stomach. Side effects usually occur at high doses. There have been some people who may have developed liver problems after using black cohosh, the specifics of which are still being investigated. Nonetheless, people with pre-existing liver problems, or those taking any other medication/substance that affects the liver, should either avoid black cohosh or check in with their health care provider prior to use.
  • Risks. Black cohosh may not be safe for: <ul style="font-size: 10pt; margin: 0px 0px 12px; list-style: none; padding: 0px;"> <li style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 1.3em; background-image: url('http://css.webmd.com/dtmcms/live/webmd/consumer_assets/site_images/miscellaneous/3x3_black_bullet.gi... margin: 0px 0px 2px 1px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 7px; background-position: 0px 7px; background-repeat: no-repeat no-repeat;"> Women who are pregnant (although it is sometimes used to induce labor)
  • Women who have -- or have had -- breast cancer or uterine cancer
  • Women who have endometriosis
  • Children under 18
  • People with liver disease, a high risk of stroke or blood clots, or seizure disorders
  • People with allergies to aspirin
</li> </ul>

I took black cohash for a while and my gyno got upset when I told her. It actually caused all kinds of female problems for me. Be careful!

I got it for this hot climate.........a Frog Toggs neck wrap. It really cools you down.

Can you tell me which of the Frog Toggs products you purchased? I'm looking at the website but can't decide what to get. I just need something to go around my neck that is not too bulky. Thanks!

You may need a couple depending on your activities. I have one that ties around my head when I work in the yard. I also used a cooling pad in my pillow case....I can't remember when I got it but it really helped.

Hot flashes are a result of estrogen dominance as your grow older. All your hormones decline, but the progesterone declines faster than estrogen, leaving you dominant and causing all sorts of annoying symptoms including hot flashes and night sweats. Progesterone cream applied days 14 thru 28 of your cycle can help. Also, Vitex, is very good with boosting progesterone production and helping balance hormones for women who have PMS symptoms (like sore breasts, cramps, hormonal acne, etc.), fertility, and perimenopausal symptoms like hot flashes. There has been a lot of research on it, and it's very safe. It will take longer to have an effect than a progesterone cream but is a more natural approach since you aren't adding any hormones to your body (vitex is an herb). A lot of doctors prescribe low dose estrogen bc pills, but though they may help you feel better in the short term, they will cause more estrogen dominance in the long term. Conjugated/synthetic estrogens are never good for the body despite what those crummy TV commercials would have you believe! Best wishes! I know they are annoying.

Also, if you are not of perimenopausal age, get your thyroid checked. A wonky thyroid can cause hot flashes because it inhibits your internal thermostat from working properly (you may get hot easily in a warm room or be sensitive to cold).

I agree. I have been on bioidentical hormones for close to 10 years. I use estriol and progesterone cream that I obtain from a compounding pharmacy that is prescribed by my PA. I don't have hot flashes and I sleep like a baby. You would need to find a doctor that knows what they are doing when it comes to this. Not many do.

BTW I use the progesterone cream daily. I do not cycle it because I no longer have peri*ds. I use the estriol 3 times a week. It has been a Godsend for me.

All the best to you. I have been where you are, but not anymore because of bioidentical hormones.

Fear not Brothers and Sisters! I have read THE BOOK..........we win!!!
