My mouth hurts - upper left side, back molar area.  This has been going on for 2 months.  I have been to my dentist 3 times.

At first it was a small particle of food enlodged up in a gum pocket.  The area was professionally cleaned and flushed and all was good for 3 or 4 days, until I was eating a strawberry and lo n behold, the exact same thing happened again.  Felt like a seed got wedged up in this gum pocket and for the life of me I could not get it to come out.

Back to the dentist and they also saw some decay behind this problem molar area.  So again I was OK for a couple days but then the pain just started getting worse again.  My app't. to fill the decayed area wasn't for another month.  So I went to town and really concentrated on keeping the area super clean w/rinsing, oil pulling, tongue scraping, gentle brushing, etc...and kept it at bay til my filling app't.

Went for my filling app't. all was OK for 2-3 days and now the pain just comes back again.  I am afraid to eat anything.  The filling does not feel high, but it almost feels like there isn't enough filling in there.  They removed the old metal filling and replaced the entire filling w/a white filling but it feels like theres a hole there.  There isn't when I look in a mirror, but it feels so shallow.

I don't know what to do.  Go back a 4th time?  They did tell me it might be sensitive for awhile, but it feels more like a toothache then just sensitive to hot n cold and such.  Maybe I chewed too much because it was feeling better.  Does anyone know about such things or has had this happen to them?  The tooth has been xrayed and shows no signs of any other problem.  I just don't understand why this is going on.

Thanks for any info.

Not sure,  maybe a second opinion? I know whenever I have any dental work it takes me a long while to feel better and 'normal.'  Feel better soon😊

@jellyBEAN   What you are experiencing is somewhat normal.  Many times a restoration (filling) can remain sensitive for several months.  Going through that can cause trauma to the tooth and therefore requires time and patience for healing.   Sometimes if the nerve is affected you can end up requiring a root canal, not that you need that at this point.  The white fillings also tend to cause more sensitivity then the good old silver ones that are not really used anymore.  My suggestion would be to take whatever works for you for a headache, though aspirin or ibuprofen works best as an anti inflammatory.

I was a certified dental assistant for 30 years, just giving you what I've learned in my experience.  If it gets too uncomfortable go back for that 4th visit,  But try to patient, it may just subside.  Best of luck.

@jellyBEAN   So sorry you are having dental issues🙁.  I have  and have had my fair share. No fun. Seems like your dentist has done as much as they can without removing the tooth...which makes no since if the tooth appears healthy.

how about a second opinion?  Seems like that might be the best choice. Please keep us up to date on this issue. ((Hugs))....or maybe I should say fist 🤜 pump🙂❤️

I've learned that all dentists are not created equal. I had a consistent molar pain which would not remit. Nothing showed up on X-rays, yet, I couldn't eat anything without pain. Three dentists later, I was told it was a cracked tooth. Cracks are not visible on X-Rays; especially root fractures. Needless to say, I was in pain for months and months, waiting for my dentist to "do something". I had a root canal performed on it, which showed it was cracked and beyond repair. It had to be extracted, and now I need a bridge. I'm not a good candidate for an implant (too close to the sinus on an upper molar). Please go to another dentist for a 2nd or even 3rd opinion. Something doesn't seem right with your pain.

I have a similar problem.  My dentist told me to brush with

sensodyne toothpaste.

Sounds like a cracked tooth to me.  I had similar pain for a couple of years, yet nothing showed on the xray.  I went to another dentist and he gave me a crown.  Haven't had any pain since.

@jellyBEAN

I would consider getting a 2nd opinion, that's just me. I have spent many hours, probably weeks if added in time, in a dental chair. Not sure there is a procedure I haven't had done. Thus my opinion.

You may need more than just a filling. They used to use those amalgam fillings. With those they had to drill a bigger hole to fill the tooth. The white filling they use now does not need a large hole drilled to fill it. At any rate if it was a large filling you made need a build up with crown or something else. If your dentist says it's Ok I would seek a 2nd opinion. What else can you do? You can't go around in pain. Sorry you are dealing with this. Nothing worse.

I have the exact same problem. I can't tell you how many times I have gone back to the dentist and he has done about every test he has to figure it out. There never is an answer for it. They are now treating me for TMJ and I have a mouthguard for night and then a lighter one for during the day. It is helping somewhat. I feel your pain (literally) and I just keep praying for an answer.
