Hoo-boy!  First UTI in 16 years, and I never want another one!  If you take D-Mannose, what is the recommended dosage to take to prevent a UTI, and do you have a favorite brand or any other advice?  Also, can I start taking it while on the antibiotics?  Thank you!

@Ainhisg Why not ask your medical provider?

@Ainhisg  I have used Now brand D-Mannose powder and have taken two tsp. of it a day when I had a UTI.  The last UTI I had, I tried Urinari-X and took three pills a day.  It has D-Mannose in it. I thought it gave me more relief than the D-Mannose alone.

Also, it won't interfere with the antibiotic.

I have been using NatureBell D Mannose Powder. It is available from Amazon. I mix one scoop in my coffee every morning.

My urologist gave me the ok to take it.  This is the one I use. It's 4 capsules and that's 1500 mg. Whatever brand you choose, the quantity of d-mannose per dosage is listed on the label and so is the dosage.

My urologist does not believe in it yet I still take it . I use Now Brand 500 MG bought it on Amazon for 39.99 for 300 capsules which lasts almost a year. I have not had a UTI since I started taking it

Since January, I've been dealing with a UTI.  I'd be on a 5 day course of antibiotics and 2 days after finishing the meds, the UTI would be back.

I started reading about D Mannose.  I also read a study by the Dept of Health that reported D-mannose could be just as effective for a UTI as antibiotics.

I was skeptical but ordered my first bottled from Amazon.  It's been almost a month now and I have not had the UTI recur.  It's a miracle.

I bought from a company called "HEY GIRL".  I take 2 capsules a day.  My PCP said it was fine for me to stay on it and take it daily.

Just throwing this out there for anyone who is having persistent or recurrent UTI's.  I had been UTI free for probably 15-20 years, then got one at Thanksgiving and another one at New Year's.  The first one responded to an antibiotic.  The second one came on late at night and I was miserable.  I had DH take me to the ER because I couldn't wait for the doctor's office to open.  It's not customary but the ER doctor suggested a CT scan since I had two so close together.  We were shocked to learn of the incidental finding of a mass on my kidney that turned out to be cancerous.  I had a right radical nephrectomy in February.  My urologist said it's highly uncommon to do a CT Scan because of repeat UTI's and the ER doc saved my life.

If you're having recurrent or persistent UTI's, please go for further testing as it could be something more serious with your bladder or kidney.

Wow, @JeanLouiseFinch !  I'll bet you feel so very, very blessed!  Usually, going to the ER does not have such a good outcome (if you want to call it that), but it is the way your cancer was found.  Thank you for posting your experience and warning!  I hope you are doing okay.

I'm the OP, and I hadn't had a UTI for 16 years, so I was quite surprised when this one developed last week. I didn't seek help right away, because it didn't have all the symptoms of previous UTI's, and I have had several throughout the years.  I thought my bladder was possibly just irritated, so I cut out coffee, sugar, increased my water intake, etc., but it made little difference, and by Sunday, I was truly miserable.  The urgency to go was like nothing I had ever experienced before.

I didn't want to go to urgent care, because I didn't have faith that I would be given the correct antibiotic and wasn't sure if they would send off for a culture, plus I needed to be prescribed Diflucan for the yeast infections I always get from antibiotics, so I needed to wait to see my gynecologist yesterday.  Plus...I couldn't take Azo (Oh!  How I wanted to take that to get some relief!), because I was afraid it would skew the test results in some way.  Thank goodness the office let me come and and give a sample yesterday morning ASAP.
