Coumadin Question

Have any of you ever been on coumadin and then stopped taking it? My dad is on it, and taking him to get his blood tested every month has gotten to be an ordeal for my mom. He is about 80 pounds overweight, and can't walk, so she has to practically move him herself, and it is getting to her. I can't always be there to help. Was wondering if anyone has stopped taking it, and what is the result? I am going to talk to his primary care doctor, but wanted other input as well. Thanks.
