I just read a thread on this concerning the prep and found it useful. I have a ? and since the thread was old, I thought I'd start a new one so that posters wouldn't think it was "old news".
My question is....did you have to have an enema (at the hospital or home) even after taking the "clean out" drink/pills and before the colonoscopy.?
My mom had an enema at the hospital the morning of the colonoscopy and she thought that was normal procedure. I'd never heard that before and am hoping it's not true. Maybe she just had to have one for some reason????
I'm already scared of the prep since I tend to have that problem anyway without taking laxatives.
They are suppose to be calling me for my appt. to have one today or tomorrow. It will most likely be done next week.
I've aleady put it off 9 years (I'm 59) and can't put it off any longer.
Thanks!

I've had two and didn't have to use an enema in either prep, but it seems as though the prep varies a lot from doctor to doctor.
It probably won't seem as bad as you're expecting.....if you can eat VERY lightly for a couple days before, you may find that you'll have even less trouble.
Nothing better than hearing "Everything's fine" or "We've caught this really early".
BEST of luck!

i don't know about what went on with your mom, but this is my experience. i have had several colonoscopy and each time the prep cleaned me out just fine and dandy. no enema needed. since you are unsure about it, why not call your doctors office and ask?

When they call me back to tell me what time it is going to be I will ask them about the enema.
I've heard horror stories and this "enema thing" just made it worse! LOL She also said her friend had the enema too! Yikes!!!
The dr. already told me I'd have to take gatorade with a laxative powder stirred in. Is that bad?
I will also ask them about the movi prep...In fact I'm going to google it right now.
I'm having issues right now and scared to death I have colon cancer but the dr. isn't leaning that direction which is good. I just need to get it over with!
Thank you for your kind and encouraging words!

Because my mother died from colon cancer, I've been very attentive to scheduling colonoscopies. Years ago enemas were a routine part of the prep, but no, I've never had one at the any of the medical sites where I've had the test abd a home enema was not part of the prep for either of my last 2 scopes.
I'm so happy to hear you're going to get a baseline test.

No emema!!! I also had a sigmoidoscopy a few years after my colonoscopy, and usually that is the standard prep for that, no other prep needed, but my doc told me not necessary, so I did not do any kind of prep for that.

I had a Gatorade and powder concoction. All I could taste was the Gatorade. It was easy to drink. Put it in the freezer for a while to get it cold.

I agree with millieshops. The first colonoscopy I had was about 15-20 years ago and they did an enema; the next one, I had to do the enema at home. For the last 10 years there have been no enemas. I had some hemorrhoid problems, so started having colonoscopies in my 30s, and for the first several years there were always polyps so I had to repeat yearly. My last two have been 3 years apart, and after the last one the doc said 5 years until I repeat, so YAY!!!
I didn't find anything horrible about the prep. I didn't t hink the drink was pleasant but luckily I never had to drink the gallon of stuff I've heard some people talk about. My doc used Miralax mixed with my drink of choice (as long as it fit the criteria of no dark or red colors).

google colonosocpy prep with miralax
very easy
if you do the prep correctly you will be clean b4 you go for the procedure. You will know it
Don't worry about the enema
