I have had the test--but what I want to say is that after the test my daughter said she would treat me to breakfast--so we went to a diner--all I can say is after that I did not feel well--the next time I have that test I will not go to a diner--I don't know what happened for me to not feel well--maybe too much food all at once?--lesson learned on my part!!{#emotions_dlg.mellow}

I think you are supposed to go home after the procedure and have someone with you in case you have any problems. Probably too much food at once after "fasting" and the drug you are given. I always come right home and eat, but not a lot at first.

You are so out of it after the test that you really just need to go home and sleep it off. I went out for lunch after my first one. I didn't get sick...I just didn't really remember it, so it was wasted money LOL

I am a nurse and a fellow nurse who worked for gastroenterology gave me a great tip. Make sure you have a small jar of Vaseline and apply some Vaseline after everytime you have a bowel movement. The Vaseline creates a water barrier . Your bum is going to get sore after all the diarrhea and this really does help. I do this when I have my colonoscopy . I have also mixed the Miralax with white grape juice. Make sure its cold. It goes down better. Please Please have your colonoscopy. You really do not want to have colon cancer. If you are nervous talk with a nurse practioner or a nurse in your office. They will answer any questions you have.Fear of the unknown is the worst.

I would not discourage or encourage anyone from getting this test done, however as contested in the Canadian Journal of CME, screening 1000 people over a 10 year period will result in saving 1 life. Now if that life happens to be you, Im sure you are in favor of this invasive test. But many studies have also shown that a simple fecal occult blood test which can be done in your own home and costs 20 dollars is an option for those like myself who do not want this test done. Again, every one can make their own decisions.

A fecal occult test will only show if there is blood in the stool. We use this for a screening for gastrointestinal bleeding. It cannot tell you if you have polyps In your colon!

Had my first colonoscopy last October at the age of 54. Put it off since turning 50 out of fear but felt it was time. The prep I did was Prepopik, it had a nice flavor and was no problem at all, read the instructions each night the week before the test and felt like I knew exactly what to do the day of. No red liquids or jello because yes it can look like blood in the colon. I couldn't eat nuts the week before and I chose to eat light the day before the fast because I read that is best. I felt fine during the fast, wish I could do it now just to loose weight. I steam cleaned my rugs that day and felt more clear headed, like I could remember anything without hesitation, it was interesting. I am to do another in seven years, all was well. I gained a lot of courage reading these boards, as you never know who you are helping when you share advice.Smile

A friend of mine had a terrible experience. During the test she was drugged, but remembers feeling horrible discomfort as they were probing. But she wwas unable to speak to tell the doctor. She has told me "never again". Everyone says the prep is the worst part but Ive heard stories that the actual procedure can negatively affect some people.

i was writing HERE to see if any of you had any tip on what I COULD fix, given the restriction of no nuts, veggies fruits or meats..

And you have been very helpful- I thank you with all my heart- All I could think of was grilled cheese!!

Has anyone ever referred to the Bristol stool chart ? My doctor explained a perfectly formed stool should be banana shaped and moderately soft and easy to pass. But what is normal ?

My fiancée just had a colonoscopy on Monday. Lots of Gatorade, Apple juice, chicken broth, any jello except red or grape, Popsicles same with the red and grape. No solid foods. It certainly isn't fun.. He came through with flying colors. Never heard of 48 hrs before though. Good luck.
