I just had my Colonoscopy 10 year repeat Monday. First time no polyps. This time 8! He found one large one. Thank God he was able to remove it and he said he got all of it and sent it out for a biopsy. I have to wait a week. Just so anxious about it. I have to go back in 3 years which is fine. Has anyone experienced this? Thank you for your input.

Hi, @Marciirene !  I just had an upper GI and colonoscopy in March and they found one gastric polyp and one colon polyp, which I was told was pre-cancerous.  It was a tubular adenoma, which 50% of people develop and only 10% of those progress to cancer.  I'm on a three year cycle for repeat as well.

Re: Colon polyp biopsy

[ Edited ]

My son  just celebrated 15 yrs since he had a cancerous colon polyp which was removed and biopsy came back less than stage 1 cancer so no treatment. (thank the Lord!). He was in his mid 30's. Once he was diagnosed the MD recommended I get a colonoscopy since he was so young, I did and they found a huge polyp. My biopsy also came back less than stage one so no tx needed. Again thank the Lord !  I am having my 3 yr test done in October. A small polyp was found at my last test 3 yrs ago and it was non cancerous. I understand being anxious believe me ! Praying for a non-cancerous outcome for you.

Sounds fairly normal. I've had several. (My dad died of colon cancer so I began those tests at a much younger age.) The first couple didn't have any polyps and I was scheduled to return in 10 years. The next two times I had some polyps (no cancer) and I've been on 5 year return schedules.

Does anyone know if there is an age when they stop giving these exams? Seems like the prognosis may outlast the lifetime in some cases!

My dear father had colon cancer so I was tested every 5 years.  Nothing was ever found.  I had my last colonoscopy 2 years ago at the age of 75.  He said that since he has never found anything, he feels it's time for us to part company.  If I'm not mistaken, many insurance companies do not want to pay for colonoscopies after age 75 unless there is a history or symptoms.

My son, who is now 57, had his first colonoscopy at age 50 when they found 3 precancerous polyps.  He goes every 3 years.

As uncomfortable as the prep is, I'm grateful for this valuable screening test.

My husband had his first colonoscopy at 51, and they found three polyps--one large--all benign. He is on a 3-year repeat like you and is actually waiting for scheduling to call him now for his second colonoscopy.

Seems like if someone is prone to them, they just keep coming back. I go every 5 years.
