Re: Chronic Tension/Migrane headaches

I woud also think about checking out your spine and neck.  I don't know how you broke your hip, but maybe it caused an injury or misalignment somewhere else.

Re: Chronic Tension/Migrane headaches

So sorry you have to deal with this.  I was a migraineur during my daughter's teen years and missed so much.  Oddly enough they went away when I got breast cancer--go figure.

Anyway, a friend has used chiropractors and cranial-sacral manipulators to treat this with good results.  Might be worth a try if you haven't already.

Wishing you improvement,

Seannie

@Mindy D  This is the third doctor I have seen

@I am still oxox Maybe it might help to see a second headache specialist to try to get an accurate diagnosis of the type of headache you have.

Re: Chronic Tension/Migrane headaches

@Seannie  There are no good chriporators in the area and I would not trust anyone to touch my neck, but thanks for the suggestion

I think you live in New York where I am sure you have access to some of the best medical care available, but I will just throw out the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN as another resource.

I am sure you have heard of all the celebs, politicians and dignitaries from around the world who have sought tx there. I personally have family and friends who live from one coast to the other who choose to be treated at Mayo.

Lodging is very affordable and many will transport guests to/from the clinic/hospital.

Here is a snippet from their website:

 Headache Overview

People who seek relief from head and face pain, including migraine, benefit from the expertise of the Department of Neurology specialty group for headache. Our headache specialists have extensive experience and help thousands of people each year.

Your neurologist will coordinate your testing and pinpoint the cause of your pain, bringing together a multispecialty team as needed. Your care might involve experts in brain, spine and nervous system surgery (neurosurgeons), brain imaging (neuroradiology), dental specialties, or others as needed. These experts have access to advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques and tools, including stereotactic radiosurgery, Gamma Knife radiosurgery and microvascular decompression.

Re: Chronic Tension/Migrane headaches

I started having migraines when I was just 12 yrs old. Drs said I was too young to have migraines even though my symptoms were there.... so I was checked for everything from brain tumors to encephalitis and everything else. They never found any cause for my headaches...but I figured out on my own that they began when I hit puberty and ended when I began menopause. Hormone-related, obviously. I took Excedrin Migraine when it came out, which is basically Tylenol with caffeine and it helped a little, but before that I just had to be in a dark room when I felt one coming on. I figured out they began a couple of days before my periods and ended a day before the end of them. A few times I had to go to ER and they would just drug me up and send me home. I am so sorry you are dealing with headaches. I hope you find some relief for them. I suggest marking your calendar with the dates they begin and end and see if there is a pattern to them. I found staying away from red wine, walnuts, and a few other things with methyl xanthines also helped. I think way too many meds are handed out when the doc just won't admit they don't have the answer.

I have had an almost constant headache since I broke my first hip in October 2020, I have been on a laundry list of meds and nothing has helped, I see a neurologist who specializes in headaches and I am currently on Nurtec for the last three months and it had not helped, I am depressed and miserable from this experience Not looking for sympathy just venting

Have you tried verapamil ER in a slow release dosage? That and a dose of a beta blocker have left me migraine free. I still get auras occasionally but no headache afterward.

Good luck @I am still oxox . I truly sympathize.

I posted verapamil ER. Not myco_alberto @I am still oxox .I saw an eminent neurologist in Manhattan and was prescribed it 20 years ago. It is a drug cocktail often used for migraine.

I have no clue where that extra paragrah came from.
