I've been taking CholestaCare for four months per label directions. Once in a great while, I might accidentally miss a dose, but overall--very consistent in taking it as directed. I had my bloodwork done today, and total cholesterol and LDL (bad cholesterol) are up with borderline high readings. BOO. My triglycerides did fall by 39!, so the CholestaCare did have to be responsible for that--but it didn't seem to help anything else. My good cholesterol is only up by 2mg and is still good at 64. I see my internist Monday, and I don't think he'll suggest statins yet, but I would sure like to get these numbers down if I can.
I've read cholesterol books, and in years past, have eaten steel cut oats, flaxseed, apples, and garlic with no good effect on my numbers. I exercise regularly and do maintain my weight. My eating habits are not perfect, but they are not too bad at all. I recently gave up decaffeinated coffee after I read that it can increase LDL levels by 8-10%. I think that is why my LDL went up, since I have been drinking decaffeinated coffee for about a year. I have now stopped drinking it.
About the only thing I have not tried is Red Yeast Rice. Consumer Labs recommends Cholestene Red Yeast Rice. It tests pure and with the amounts stated on the label. My question is this...I have seen on this board the mention of taking COQ10 with red yeast rice. Why do you need to take COQ10 w/RYR, and how many milligrams of the Q10 are you supposed to take a day?
TY!

B warned , red yeast rice can cause kidney problems, and even damage. I would talk to a Dr about using it

If you dont want to take a statin, I would not take Red Yeast Rice, it is a form of a statin. I take Puritans Pride Cholest Wise, 3 per day with lunch and 2 Puritans Pride Double Strength Phytosterol Complex with dinner. . The Cholest Wise is a much more comprehensive formula than Cholesta Care is.

If your good chol is very good which it is, and your bad went down by 39, I would be quite happy, not disappointed, an OTC supp. which is not a statin is not going to work miracles, 39 is about the best you can hope for. What more are you asking for?

@Ainhisg I had good number results from Andrew Lessman's Choco Nova. Just 2 pieces a day. I really didn't get great results from Cholesta Care.

Cholestoff Complete helped me. Mine was high and I took Cholestoff Complete as directed and it went down enough for the doctor to be satisfied with my cholesterol

@Shelbelle, my bad cholesterol (LDL) did not go down. It went up, and is now borderline high at 151.

I take one berberine capsule a day. My cholesterol numbers are normal but were not before I started taking it. Berberine also brought my A1C down to normal (berberine mechanism is similar to that of metformin).
Here's a NIH article pertaining to berberine and cholesterol:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15926873
Before discovering berberine I was on statins. I did not want to be so it's berberine for me from now on. The FDA has been working on berberine for a while now and I suspect some day it will become an official drug.

@SilleeMee I put DH on Berberine to improve his A1C, but didn't realize it was good for lowering cholesterol.

Andrew Lessman has some very good info about the use of berberine over on HSN @mousiegirl.
