Pam, I don't drive myself buckets of crazy, I'm already buckets of nuts lol. When I first started taking the estrogen I wondered if I might cause cancer. But honestly my symptoms were so severe I didn't have a choice, I had to have some relief . I couldn't take it. But I have cancer in my family my father was diagnosed with four different primary cancers the last five years of his life. His oncologist suggested I get special insurance to cover cancer. Shrugging, but what's a person to do? I guess there are some things we will just never know. Goldie

I was put on HRT (premarin) immediately after a total hysterectomy. The first morning after surgery, the dr. wrote me a script for them. I never even questioned it, I just started taking them and took them for at least 8 years. And then BC with absolutely no family history of it. If anyone asked me for an opinion on them, I'd say, don't even think of taking them.

Hi bow - thanks for sharing your good news! Yay for you - 2014 is going to be a better year for us I think. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup} Hi UK - good to hear from you! Jackie, how is your Tria working???

I also had a benign check up with my oncologist. Still have bad fatigue, insomnia (still feel like I'm on those steroids) and joint and muscle aches. Massages feel good but don't really help. Neither does medication, not even Advil will work for my joint and muscle pain and it used to before chemo. I think the Tumeric and tart cherry juice helps a little. My sister and I were thinking of going on a good detox plan, but I didn't completely trust the chiro clinic she knows that "sells" it. I also am bloated and cannot lose weight.

And then an interesting thing happened. I went to our AAPC (national coding association) Chapter Feb meeting. I kind of had to because I am VP for this year. {#emotions_dlg.bored} We we were having a chiropractor, nutritionist type guy speak (yawn) but we do get continuing education credits for attending. So, I settled in and oh my gosh. I sure wasn't prepared for the dynamic presentation and information that this guy presented. He has been on Oprah twice, other shows and programs I can't remember and goes all over the nation to speak.

Now, I take everything with a grain of salt from these types of people mind you, but most of what he said made sense. And you know those mushrooms that grow on birch trees we had been discussing? Well, he had quite a bit to say about them, there are actually 2 kinds, and recommended having them during and after chemo if you have cancer. He mentioned tree mushrooms are medicinal, ground mushrooms, you're on your own. He did have studies to back up his information.

He totally bashes the medical profession (except if you break your arm), which I take issue with, but he actually is asked to give presentations at our local hospitals and clinics, figure that one out He gave one last week at the hospital I work at! All free. He said don't take notes (I did anyway) you can have this whole presentation plus a free dessert cookbook. Our president is going to contact his clinic and get it so we can download it.

He bashed all of our local hospitals, so at least he is equal opportunity and doesn't discriminate! Then I discovered he is from the city I live in when I made my apt (when they asked if it would be a phone or in person apt). Has Clinics in other areas also, but lives here and his clinic is just a short distance from where I live.

So I have an apt with him March 17th and we'll see how it goes. His questionnaires are extensive and asks things like were you breast fed, did your Mom smoke or drink when pg with you, were you a premie, what did you eat as a child growing up and tons more. He tests for certain allergies if he thinks it is necessary, does other lab work and his motto is we don't guess, we test. He will use previous testing form other providers if done in the last year so as not to duplicate or do unnecessary testing. Talked a lot about hormones.

He does have extensive education besides being a DC. Has a Masters and specialty training in different areas. He is 39 yrs old and said a couple times he is a jerk (I kind of agree, but most men are, ha ha!), says he is wealthy, has enough money and wouldn't really have to work anymore, but still is in what he calls "functional medicine" full time. I could go on and on, sorry about that - he went on and on for 2 hours and asked if he could stay over a little and we told him yes, and not one person left our meeting while he talked another 20 min.

Anyway, I can't wait, maybe this will be something that can help. His first consultation/visit is for one hour and is $175. They will usually do cranial sacral thoracic and lumbar x-rays, depending on your history, which I think are about $275 more. They do send this to ins, which sometimes pays and sometimes doesn't. I'm going to use my income tax refund. There goes my Tatcha skin care, oh well....

Everyone take care and hope you are all surviving this winter that won't stop!

Bo what fabulous news. Having my cyber drink. I love good news.

Lannie, I wouldn't know a tree mushroom from a ground mushroom if I fell over it. However I'm very excited about your appointment with this Dr. You'll have to pass on all of the info you get from him. I also hope he can help you with your aches and pains and insomnia. I fear this chemo has not left any of us feeling really great. I'm weary too. However I take my tylenol PM and can fall asleep. Chemo also did a number on my teeth which I feared may happen. Well, we're still here so we can't complain too much.

Ultrasound in another week. I'm bouncing off of the walls already.

Thx Lannie and Jackie! Lannie, your post is so intriguing to me! I am so sorry that you are dealing with these issues, but I'm a big believer in "things happening for a reason". Please keep us updated on your appt. with this fellow. You know, Dr. A. Weil has always been a big proponent of mushrooms. I just pulled out from stash of supplements Immune Renew by NOW (organic proprietary mushroom blend and astragalus root extract) which I took for short time and stopped due to laziness. Think I will at least finish the bottle now. I wish you the very best. I have been taking astaxanthin for years and believe I have benefitted greatly. If you want to know more about this, go to utube for suzy cohen (America's Pharmacist) on astaxanthin. I take Hawaiian Bioastin. Wishing you the very best, Lannie! NEW PARAGRAPH: Jackie....Is there anything you can do for your teeth now? Is it the teeth themselves or gums? Best of luck on your upcoming ultrasound!

Me again.....Just a FYI......I went to look at utube video that I suggested above and see where there is now more than one....it is the one she did in 2008 which addresses aches and pains that started me taking this supplement. In watching this for the first time in eons and not remembering everything she had to say, I see where she mentions it helping with radiation effects. Little did I know in 2008 that this could prove beneficial for me in 2013........ Oh...and Lannie 3/17th is St. Patty's Day...remember to wear a little green somethin'/somethin'.... Smiley Happy)
