My surgeon met with the tumor board and they said it was a grey area. Their opinions seem to be pretty evenly split. Some felt that I should get the treatment and others thought I shouldn't. My surgeon/doctor said that in his opinion I am low-risk and that he does not think that I need any further treatment except for being monitored. Since my cancer was small and was surrounded by plenty of healthy tissue, he believes that he got all the cancer out. I will need an ultrasound and blood work every year or so, but that is a piece of cake! He said that if I felt I wanted the treatment it would be alright to get it but that he wants me to know about the risks vs the benefits. He'll refer me to the radiologist that administers the treatment so that we can get all the information in order to make an informed decision. I will probably go along with my doctors advice unless the radiologist says something to change my mind. As far as I am concerned, the news is good! I am so relieved!
On another note, ds is here visiting so I haven't been on the boards much the past few days. It is so nice to see him. I hated telling him about the cancer but at least he knows that I don't need any further treatment and can concentrate on healing.
Have a nice day all!

WA GIRL,
I see that you're also on tamoxifen and I'm wondering how you're doing so far.....I've been on it for over 5 years, I couldn't take an AI, (had awful problems with it).
Are you getting hot flashes since you've been on tamoxifen?

Bluejay---what fantastic news!!!! And I think going to see the radiologist is a great idea and if he confirms what you have been told, then girlfriend, you are golden!!!! Just be as vigilant as you can be and if there is ANYTHING out of the normal no matter how small and insignificant it seems, tell your drs!!!!! I've been going to a naturpathic oncologist and am on a plan to bring down the inflammation in my body that feeds cancer cells and increase my immunity. My regular onc dr agrees with my plan. So happy for you!!!

Tyak--I'm doing much better on the tamox.I had side effects with the AI too. Hair was falling out, horrible muscle aches and joint pain, general fatigue that I couldn't shake off. And my onc says she is good with the tamox for my age--59---so I'm good with that. No I don't have hot flashes---didn't really with menopause either, but I do take 400IU of vit E a day as was suggested by one of our ladies here, I believe. I get tiny little warm spots on occasion, 1 or 2, at night, sometimes, but I wouldn't consider them HOT flashes at all. Not like alot of women get.

That's about how I'd get them, more like a bad flush for a couple of minutes about 1-2 hours after taking the tamox but now after 5 1/2 yrs. I'm not getting any of them anymore. I was on premarin for 7-8 years immediately after a hysterectomy and when I went off premarin, I never had a single hot flash, so I'm thinking I'm just a person that isn't prone to hot flashes like many women. I'm 68, btw. My s/e's from femara was arthritis and severe swelling in my feet so I had no choice but to take the tamox. I just hope it's done the job it was supposed to do. If I could take back time, I would never have taken the hormone replacement (premarin) for all those years as I wonder if that was the cause of my getting B.C. But that's something I'll never know. I wish you good luck with any and all tests and many years of being cancer free! That's something we all pray for with this disease.

Tyak-- I take tamox in the morning with no side effects like yours at all. Sounds like me with the hrt's tho. I took low dose estrogen and progesterone for about 5 years to control my menopause symptoms and in 2012 was dx with BC. No history in my family so I'm thinking the same thing. I started with hot flashes that were much worse back when I was about 45. They did wake me up at night and having insomnia and a husband that snored, I was not getting any sleep. So I opted for the hrts. No we'll never know for sure and I'm with you--just hoping for the best and wishing a good outcome for us all!!

Hi Goldie--when I was dx with BC that was the very first thing I thought about that could be a cause. I was taking them before the big stink about them being so awful for us. I had stopped a few years earlier than my 2012 dx but when I brought this up to all the many drs I had, they all kind of gave the same reaction--a silent yes, that could be a cause. But who really knows, right? We will drive ourselves buckets of crazy trying to figure it out.

Do not get me started on HRT's. It was pushed on everyone who had hot flashes or other menopausal symptoms and look what happened. My Dr put me on Vagifem for extreme dryness. Then I get a diagnosis of breast cancer. Oh it's safe it only works locally. Yeah, right.
