I just ordered my third bottle of Calium Citate with the hope that I don't have a medical emergency and choke to death on the pills.  The first bottle was Citracal...two gigantic, humongous, monstrously large tablets.  I gave it the ol' college try but after a couple of days it was very apparent that I was going to choke on these things.  Even splitting them in two didn't work.  So then i ordered a second bottle of "petite" sized tablets.  It was laughable what they referred to as petite.  Again, a choking hazard.  Even splitting them in two.  They kept getting stuck in my throat.

I finally gave up and ordered a bottle of gummies from Amazon.  A little pricy but at least I won't end up in the emergency room.  How can companies sell these hazards?  Can't they coat these tablets to make them go down easier?  Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, I have that problem.  I didn't think they made calcium citrate in gummies.  That's usually another calcium.  Citrate is the one that is best absorbed.  I also take a large amount of vitamin D, so I don't want the added vitamin D that most calcium supplements have.

So, I just get a calcium citrate powder that I mix in my yogurt.  I'm not taking a full dose, which is 2 tsp, but the body can only absorb so much at one time and the yogurt itself is going to have calcium.  I had good, dense bones at my last bone scan which was this year, so I'm not overly concerned about it.

I just ran out of the powder, so I need to order some more.

I have no problem swallowing even huge horse pills, my problem can be taking too many at once. I dont like gummies, I feel like they get stuck in my teeth. Capsules are the easiest to get down.

@Linda0215.  I took them for years until my doctor took me off of calcium.  Never gave the size of the pills a second thought, just rotely swallowed them everyday.  You must have an unusually small throat.

If you have to take huge tablets, make sure they say they  are coated, they go down much more easy.

@Shelbelle

I have been taking Citracal slow release pills for several years.  Recently I discovered I can now easily break one in half with my two thumbs and forefingers.

To make sure they each go down easily, I take a large drink of water and tilt my head back.  This is now so much more easy to swallow than the choke and gag routine !

My PCP suggested the calcium be taken overnight and the slow release version so that the body absorbs more of it rather than flush it out of the system.

I take Nature's Way Calcium Citrate.  - I buy it on Amazon - very easy to swallow capsules.

I hate those larger horse pills - I do take a few.

I have found that breaking some larger tablets in half tends to leave them with a jagged edge and this can feel rough on my throat going down, so I stopped doing that.

I thave to take calcium...osteoporosis.  However I get my calcium on amazon...It is by Bayer..it's calcium citrate "petites"  Yes I have to take more to get the dosage correct.  However because they are smaller it is much easier to swallow.  And I don't think the price is higher because they are smaller.  Maybe they re but not by much.  And for me they are worth it.
