Well the good news is that my second TKR is completed and I'm doing well. I'm one week in already.
FYI: I have been treated for hbp for many years and for the past few years received blood work and urine test every 6 months.
Also this year year I had to leave my NY doctor of many years because the marketplace only had HMO plans available. So I had to,choose a dr in the state in which I now live.
So I go to this new doctor for my medical clearance for TKR surgery. I made sure my records were forwarded to this new doctor.
She said everything is fine. Come back in 6 months. I'll forward your results to.....
. (Hosp where surgery was done).
Ok so I leave content.
Comes the day day of the surgery. Admitting nurse spends 10 minutes prior to starting the admission telling me I should see a nephrologist right away because my GFR is low. Last year when I had my first knee done, she said my BUN and creatine were too high. She was looking at my blood work from the first knee replacement. No one ever said anything last year. Well she scared the pants off of me. Also CKD was added to my charts.
Also when I got wheeled into recovery the very first thing that the person wheeling me said to the nurse was "she has CKD". Like 😳😳😳. Totally out of the blue. If I was a neglectful person who never went to drs I could understand. But I have been monitored for years.
Well needless to say I'm am extremely upset. I called the doctor who cleared me medically and I talked to a woman in the office who left a msg for the dr. The dr didn't return my call on Friday. I'm hoping she returns it on Monday and explains what in the world is going on.
So now I'm going to see if I get a call back or I will call again. I'm pretty incapacitated right now so my visit to the nephrologist will have to wait at least 5 more weeks. I hope I survive until then. I'm thinking the support staff at the hospital where the surgery Was done would beg to differ.
my husband just died 2 months ago. This I didn't need right now.

@Ditzydori I am so sorry for the loss of your husband and everything you are going through. The good news is your surgery is complete and you haven't mentioned any complications, other than the CKD follow-up. Sending you much love and light...do your best to stay in the present and definately keep on the doctor for more information. Keep us posted.

You've had quite an eventful last few months and unfortunately it hasn't been fun at all. It sounds as though things may be turning around for you and once you get this knee back in working order, you'll be enjoying life again. Everything looks worse when you hurt. I'm so sorry to hear about your husband; I remember how panicked you were when he was so I'll.
Hope everything turns out alright and you are soon skipping.

I'm having my knee done in October. Could you tell me how much pain you experienced the first few days after surgery? I think that is what worries me the most. Thanks.

They give you plenty of pain meds to control the pain. The first day is the most painful. Then after that it's very tolerable. I'm not taking any pain meds right now except extra strength Tylenol. Good luck with your surgery.
