Bunion surgery????

Has anyone out there had bunion surgery, and if so, would you do it again and recommend it? I just saw my podiatrist and it sounds like a long, complicated recovery and I'm wondering if I really want to go through that or just live with an ugly, sometimes painful bunion. I've read different things on it, including the fact that there are two different type procedures, but am still undecided as every article I read seems to have a different take as to pain, recovery, recurrence, necessity, etc. Thanks for any opinions/help you can give me.
