I am told I have a bone spur under my big to which is aggravating the callus I have there also.  Option to have it removed but wondered if anyone has had a bone spur removed from this area and how long did it take to recover?

Not comfortable but I had a bone spur in my heel..Doc hit it with a cortisone injection. All good now Callus could be "sanded" down by podiatrist.

If you are in pain, and walking is terrible, then getting properly help is imperitive. Did you get an MRI or just an xray? I would want specific imaging. I have had two toe surgeries with an orthopedic surgeon, not a podiatrist. I had my big toe fused. I have bone spurs on other joints. I think having the bone spur removed will make your life so much better in a year. Read the MRI report so you know exactly what is wrong with your foot. I first went to a quack foot guy and he lied and told me some horrible thing about what was wrong with my toe. I was desperately in pain. I decided to get a second opinion and research surgeons on their websites. Now I live in a big city with lots of great doctors and surgeons. I found a great surgeon who was also chief of the foot surgery department at a hospital. My first doctor did only xrays, the second guy diagnosed first and said let's get an MRI and I said absolutely. He diagnosed correctly and the first guy was absolutely WRONG. Go to the best doctor you can find and have imaging done and read the report. If you can't have an MRI, then have the surgeon show you the xray in the office and point out the bone spur, etc.

I had bone spurs between 2 toes, Pinkie and the one next to it.  Had surgery 20+ years ago by a podiatrist as it hurt constantly, even when I woke up in the morning.

Surgery was successful but recovery took a long time, maybe 12 weeks till I could put my foot in a closed shoe.  I had it done around this time of year and I could wear a thong sandal which didn't press on the toes.

If you are in constant pain and you can't live your life, get it fixed.  I was comfortable with the podiatrist because I saw him for a few years before and he had a good busy practice.

My podiatrist took  x-rays and I have two bone spurs in my left heel area. He gave me a cortisone shot and so far so good. I also have plantar fascitis in the left foot.

Good luck in whatever you decide!

A few years ago I had an Achilles' tendon large bone spur as well as a bone spur in each heel.  Orthopaedic surgeon said no to surgery as there was no guarantee.

He was right:  time took care of both issues.  One thing that I did then and continue to do for safety reasons: I go down stairs facing the stairs and holding the rail.  This took pressure off placing the heel foot part on the lower step.

Having had acquaintances who fell down stairs and ended up with severe injuries, I feel much safer knowing I will fall into the stair as opposed to falling backwards which could produce severe consequences.

Interesting result: DH who is almost 80, has started to do the stair-facing descent without my suggesting it !

@meallen616 How painful was the cortisone shot? I have an appointment tomorrow for a shot in my right heel. I've been in misery with this bone spur and hoping for some relief.

@CicadaSongs

The injection is quick, be brave! I have gotten them before as I have had plantar fascitis several times.This is the  first time with the bone spurs though.

Let us know how you do, I think you will have relief right away.

@meallen616 Thank you for the pep talk. I've never had a cortisone shot and didn't know what to expect pain wise. I think anything would be better than the pain I have been experiencing.

Thank you, again. I'll let you know how it goes.
