Bone spur removal versus bunion removal

How invasive is bone spur removal? Daughter has one on the top of her foot at about 3 inches from base of toe? I am sure it comes from over wearing high heeled shoes etc. I know bunion surgery is quite intense and wanted to know if anyone has experienced either? Thanks.

Is it hurting her or does she just not like the way it looks?  All orthopedic surgery can be pretty intense as the in activity post op due to pain and maybe  in a cast or on crutches can lead to other issues like clots. Has she spoken to a podiatrist about it?

I know this may not be the reply you were looking for but I know that whenever I had a spur and I stopped eating meat and dairy it completely went away. It took a few weeks, but I no longer have any problems. A little miracle if you ask me.

It only hurts if shoe rubs against. No dr consultations yet. At this point the appearance bothers her more, but luckily the placement is not at her heel or back which would cause her discomfort in all her shoes. For now she is altering her shoe choices.

@pggoody, Years ago, I had bone spurs removed on both little toes. The middle joint was removed on each one. I had to get the surgery when I could not find any shoes which did not hurt and walking was extremely painful.

Afterwards my feet were heavily bandaged to my ankles but I was able to walk gingerly without crutches. They looked much worse than they felt. Shocked strangers would stop and ask me what happened - that's how bad they looked.

This was a long ago, so I don't remember all the details, but I don't remember a lot of pain. Feet are slow to heal, so it took about 6 weeks before my feet were completely ok.

Re: Bone spur removal versus bunion removal

I have one in the same place as your daughter, and I don't remember it never not being there. It has never hurt, and it doesn't even hurt or bother me when I wear athletic shoes with ties. It's never hurt. I also have a bunion which hurts once in a great while. If either were painful all the time, I would have surgery. I never have elective surgery done. Not for looks. Noboddy has ever noticed mine; it's just a little bump....
