Bone Medication

[ Edited ]

Which do you take?  Has it been put to the test by protecting you against a broken bone when you fell?  Or maybe you've been on bone strengthening medication for awhile and never fell?  Which category are you in and do you feel it helps to take those medications.  Please list them and explain as I have entered the decision process that will affect me forever.

I'd like to check back with you on this.

I have a diagnosis which depletes my calcium

Right now I'm only doing Vit D & calcium by mouth.

At the end of the month, I'm scheduled for a bone density.

I'm curious if my doctor may bump me up to something like Boniva or another more aggressive treatment than just the Vit D & calcium.

I fell a couple of years ago and broke my arm.   I really don't want to break anything in my spine or hip.

Am I going down the right road?  Your post is a bit cryptic.

After taking calcium/bone strengthening drugs for many, many years, my dex scan showed I still have osteoporosis in spine & femur.

My Dr. suggested I try Prolia injections. The regimen is 1 injection every 6 months for 3 years.

I recently had another dex scan and my osteo is almost gone compared to my last scan!

Prolia rebuilds bone and after a 6 month break (recommended by my Dr.), I will resume it until it's totally gone.

I had several falls last year trying to adjust to a BP med that made me really dizzy and one fall resulted in bruised ribs, which I'm sure would've been broken ribs before Prolia.

I had no side effects at all with Prolia.

You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I take a bamboo silica powder sup. Good for the bones, joints, nails and hair.

When my husband was healing from cracked vertebrae, I asked the Dr if he should take calcium pills

He told us to take them if we wished, but there was no evidence that indicated they would do any good

One of my neighbors took Fosamax and lost jaw bone and a tooth from it.  She had to have a bone graft and implant.

What "bone medication" are you talking about ????  Do you have osteoporis?

@puttypiesmom,

I buy the Bulksupplements brand from Amazon. Search 'bamboo extract powder' and you'll see the bag of it there. I take a rounded 1/4-tsp daily. It mixes well in any liquid and is completely tasteless. Makes my hair grow really fast and it makes it shine, too. My bone density results came back normal after having an abnormally low one that indicated osteopenia, which I don't have currently. This happened after I started taking the bamboo powder, about a year later I got the good news about my BD. It was the only thing I did differently so for me that was proof enough that the bamboo worked for me. Of course everyone is different.Woman Happy
