I have a difficult time taking vitamin D. It makes me so nauseated and I've tried different brands. Does anyone else have this issue? I was told a have osteopenia but haven't had a test recently to see where my numbers are at. My doctor has already told me he wanted me on a drug if the numbers didn't change though I'm hesitant to take one. Many people in my family have had issues with this. I recall my sister barely falling and breaking her hip so she had to have it replaced when she was in her early 50's. However she never exercises or listens to medical advice. So there's that.

@colliemom4 , I do not have any problems with vitamin D. I have been taking large amounts of it for some time now, so I can't really credit it any for the change in my bone density.

I take 4,000mg of Vitamin D every day, have been for roughly 5 years now. Never had a problem like you mentioned from it. I must say however, I can't remember having that reaction from any med, or even "put you to sleep anaesthesia".
Never from food or booze or anything, and back in my partying days, I even drank things trying to see if I would p-u-k-e(gross I know, I was a wild one). I hope you can find something that your body will tolerate that will help with your bone density.

I was also diagnosed with osteopenia. I'd like to try taking the bamboo extract but I have thyroid disease and I take synthroid. Can I still take the bamboo extract?
Does anyone have thyroid disease and take bamboo extract?

So glad to find THIS post, too.
I weighed over 200 pounds, at 5'4", almost all of my adult life, and for much of that time, I weighed over 250.
During all those years, I was always told that since I was, in effect, dragging around the weight of TWO PEOPLE in ONE BODY, my bone strength would actually benefit by the extra weight bearing,
Then when I had a bone scan following my 85+ pound weight loss, I was told I had osteopenia in my hips, but not in my spine.
I'm going to find out more about this supplement- I have male pattern baldness too! LOL

I have not come across any information about silica supplementation and its effects on thyroid disease or medications...which, to me, would indicate there are no effects. You may want to ask your doctor.
