@Thats Me : I was told the same thing. Plus drink some orange juice for better absorption. I was told this by my new and young pcp and she believes in the supplements previously mentioned. I have stomach and heartburn issues and can't drink orange juice but able to eat a small orange with no problems.

Before jumping on the calcium bandwagon, take warning if you are on a diuretic. The diuretic changes the way the calcium is processed and absorbed which could be dangerous and risky for some people.

There's quite a few different types of magnesium, what type do you take? Thanks

I take 500 mg Mag Oxide daily, this one is the one that will combat the constipation effects from calcium which is what I need. It has a mild laxative effect.

For a magnesium supp good for bones try either mag citrate or mag glycinate. Mag oxide contains less bioavailable elemental magnesium than the other forms. Also consider a magnesium blend of a few of the various types.

I just spotted a very good blend today from Nutricost contains Oxide, Glycinate and Citrate. I may give it a try but really need the Oxide for the constipation issues with calcium, it has done its job for me for over 20 years, 500 mg daily, plus whatever is in my Centrum Silver.

@SilleeMee - this is the one DH and I take. I'm very careful about monitoring my intake. I like that the per capsule amount is small enough that I can take one or two, depending on my dietary sources on a given day. Plus, as I'm sure you know, the RDA for men and women are different so, again, we can both use the same supplement but in the appropriate suitable dosage. My goals for certain supplements are the benefits they provide for brain and heart health. For me, the magnesium oxide is cheap and the lowest on the list, whereas l-threonate and glycinate are at the top for the benefits they provide, along with the malate for the plumbing and bones, since I can't take calcium.
