Bone Density scan due today.

I really don't want to mess with this.  I guess the most I'd be told afterwards is, keep taking the calcium.  What a waste that would seem like to me.  I can't take those meds I had to once upon a time.  Never was so sick, as to having to take those and I refuse to go on that again.  My body says no to that. Think it was called Fosomax.  Somthing like that.

@qualitygal  the Scan itself is easy.  Is this the First scan after finishing the meds?  The scan will show if there is any regression in the level on the ostio scale by having used those meds.

At least, after all you went through, you'll know if it did any  good.

Re: Bone Density scan due today.

After receiving a total of 3 Reclast Infusions (over a period of time), my last bone density scan revealed that I no longer have osteoprosis and my bones have progressed to osteopenia.  Both my doctor and I are very pleased with the results.  I'm now doing exercises (walking more, lifting weights, etc.) and who knows, maybe I can even get rid of the osteopenia.  Nevertheless, it was a geat relief to know that I no longer have osteoporosis.  Wishhing yuu the very best.

@qualitygal   I agree about the Fosamax. Never had such acid reflux.  I took it for about a month until everything I had to eat or drink came back up into my throat and burned like heck until I said enough. no more! My Rheumatologist said that is an unusual side effect.

I had my test last month and you are right, more calcium and D3.

@qualitygal  I I think you will find the video from Dr. Eric Berg on YT entitled "

"Osteoporosis is not a calcium problem".  I would do research on my own.. Another source of info is better bones dot com.

For me, taking those drugs would not be an option,  good luck.

There is a lot of good information out there regarding osteoporosis. Vitamin D3 ( along with K2) and resistance training are good for strengthening bones.

What @haddon9 said.  At 62, my bone scans are still normal, but I take calcium, D3, K2, and do weight bearing exercise to hopefully prevent or slow down the development of osteopenia. (My mother had osteoporosis.)   My PCP told me how much calcium, D3, and K2 to take.  Thank goodness she stays abreast of the latest research.

Re: Bone Density scan due today.

Had mine done in November. A friend had to give up the Fosamax because it nearly put her in a wheelchair from the pain it caused. Quite choice to make.

Heading to a mammogram shortly, cold but no pain. Hope they are warming up the rooms!

@qualitygal : Totally agree and understand. I had so many issues with the medications and calcium. I was told that I had a major " head problem" , I said no.

@qualitygal

Good luck on your test.

And if the Dexa shows bad osteoporosis, keep in mind that there are much better meds out there than Fosamax.  As someone else said, Reclast is a yearly infusion (no heartburn) that shows great results in most people.
