I had an appointment with an endocrinologist this morning and this was the first time that I had my temperature checked. It was 97.4, which is actually high for me. The nurse told me that the new guidelines are 97.6 for the Covid check, which I had not heard. I found this interesting because that is lower than the average body temp, and I am wondering why the change.

Why didn't you ask when at your endocrinologist's office?

Apparently, normal human body temperature has been going down and 98.6 is no longer 'normal'...

Where did you get this information?

My temp always 97. something. That is normal to me.

Though over 100 is considered having a temp.

Read...Time to redefine normal body temperature? on the Harvard Health Publishing website. My normal body temp is 98.6, always has been & not a single Dr. I've seen has been concerned about it. I have no idea what temperature standard the salons will be ordered to use by the Governor when they are FINALLY allowed to open in my State...I may be rejected & sent home when I'm perfectly healthy, ugh.

I am in the medical field, not nursing, I'm an RD.
Normal temp range, is now considered to be 97.7-99.5.
Actually Dr's have long considered the 98.6, a very generic
guideline.
Temperatures often vary slightly, during any day. Some people, have a "normal" slightly below average, others may run towards the high end.
I tend to run a fever, fairly easily, for instance, with a cold, which isn't typical. On the other hand, my Mom didn't run fevers easily, so, If she had a significant temp, something was going on.
It's good to know your normal.

From what I'm understanding, 100 degrees, will be the standard.

I never check my temperture when I'm feeling well, so all I know is that my normal is somewhere below 97.7 as I can tell I'm running one at that number.
