it sounds like what I may have.  I am supposed to hear from doctor’s office today.  They did a urinalysis test in their office that shows no bacteria.  So they sent it out for culture.  I am hoping there will be bacteria, because the alternative could be worse . . . Interstitial cysitis which has no cure, becomes chronic and almost untreatable.  They use diet to treat it, no meds help.

Not meant to scare you, but it’s very coincidental that we both have the same symptoms.. Please see a doctor, preferably a urologist, if this continues.  It could turn out to be a one time thing, I hope so.

Rest easy @LilacTree . I have had interstitial cystitis since 1986. There are many new treatments and a lot of hope for the condition. Elmiron is a wonderful drug and Prelief can be added to acidic beverages such as coffee making a patient a lot more comfortable.

Without a a cystoscopy in a hospital setting the diagnosis cannot be confirmed.

Hope that relieves some of your fears....

@Trinity11

A cystoscopy can be performed in a doctor's office by a urologist.

@fortune  The "Gold Standard" to diagnose interstitial cystitis is a cystoscopy with hydrodistention. Only in a hospital setting with anesthesia is this performed. Once the diagnosis is clear, yes, an in office cystoscopy can keep track of the patient's progress with medications etc. My physician Dr. Robert Moldwin, wrote an entire book on interstitial cystitis. I highly recommend it if someone actually gets a firm diagnosis of interstitial cystitis.

You can also purchase Cranberry pills to take orally.

They work just as well, and can be put in your purse or in a pocket, so you can take them with you when you are not at home.

The last one that I had was so mild, that I didn't even know that I had an infection. I wasn't having any noticeable symptoms. Smiley Frustrated

The doctor's nurse called me and told me that the results of my urine test came back positive for an infection.

I have urine tests done as part of my doctor's visits due to issues with my kidneys/history of stones, so they also check for signs of infection then, too.

Hi @LilacTree ,

Let us know how you're doing. Smiley Happy

I'm so sorry that you're not feeling well.

I have issues with my bladder, and a history of kidney stones. I see a Urologist.

I take a medication that helps calm my bladder. He has checked it for me, and he said that it looks good now.

Many years ago, it was really inflamed.

I have problems with urgency and frequency and urge incontinence, which can be so frustrating. Smiley Embarassed

@nanny24   Good for you.  Did he/she tell you what type of infection you had?

I'll try to be delicate about describing this, wondering if anyone else has this issue. I noticed yesterday and especially this morning, I have the urge to urinate,sometimes a strong urge. When I get to the bathroom and go, it's only a tiny bit, although I initially felt I needed to go a lot. It's only 8:00 , and I've had to go 6 times already this morning. What's going on? If it continues, I will go see a Dr., but curious if this is common. Thanks.

@nanny24 Some natural cures that really work for this are take two heaping tsp of Kiva Manuka (Amazon) honey a day untill it’s resolved. One in the morning and one at night. Drink lots of water and take 1 tblsp of Nutiva (Amazon) Organic Cold Pressed Coconut oil a day. Melt it in coffee/tea or take right off the spoon. These are two of the strongest natural antibiotics / antibacterials known to man and no dangerous added ingredients as are included in pharmaceutical antibiotics. This has worked many times for me.

@KentuckyWoman

My culture showed e.coli, which is the least dangerous bacteria in UTIs.  E.coli = Macrobid/Macrodantin.  The NP prescribed Macrobid,which, as you said and I read, should not be prescribed for women older than 65.

I am 81 and have rheumatic and other diseases.  The NP either is ignorant of that or doesn’t care.  I’m taking it anyway and so far haven’t had any side effects.  I’ll let you know if that changes. (Or my survivors will, ha ha)

It’s amazing what supposed medical professionals don’t know.
