Interesting how many people have had problems after the ingrown toenail procedure! I was having problems with ingrown toenails and had just had back surgery and couldn't reach them so I went and had them cut out. My toenails ended up deformed and haven't grown in ten years. I can still paint them but am really self-conscious about my nails. They're not fully attached to the nail bed anymore, I hit one and it broke in half though it looks better than the other one.I don't know if I want to ask my doctor about them or not at this point!

I had the same thing... my nail separated.  Fortunately I never had it removed.  I've had it filed, I've had it clipped over the years.  I've done everything.  I've put all kinds of fungal medication on.  I've gotten them to the point where they are kind of okay looking and I can get a manicure and they look relatively normal.  I would not get the nail removed.  Many times they don't grow back and you can't get a nice pedicure then or wear sandals without it looking gross.
