Re: BAD RXN TO PNEUMOVAX “UPDATE” 🙀

[ Edited ]

@Annabellethecat66@tucsongal@Tinkrbl44@I am still oxox@

Thank you for your posts

@chrystaltree

The pneumovax caused an allergic reaction. The rxn site has not been cultured. The Levaquin is working.

@Drythe

Thank you for your post. I did go and read the “black box warning” ⚠️ from the .gov statement. I had read OF the black box warnings when I first started this round. Patients have incurred some very unexpected outcomes. Levaquin was rx’d to me when after a sinus operation, a sinus infection occurred. It was cultured as Staph and Pseudomonas. This was in 2012.

So I am a perfect example of what you don’t want to be... a chronic sinus person who has taken (probably) every antibiotic out there.

The generic Levaquin did not work in 2012, so 10 pills @$35.00 each = $350.00 brand name Levaquin did knock it out... sort of.

The office wants to check my white count again on Monday.

I probably gained some peripheral neurology from Levaquin in the past.

@chrystaltree

Staph is a bacteria; MRSA is caused by meth.-resistant Staph Aureus; you are right, if they thought this was MRSA, IV antibiotic would be used.

*Interestingly, allergic reactions (rxn’s) CAN cause high white counts. I googled 24,500 white blood cell counts and read. Never knew allergic rxn could cause high white counts.

Can’t blame the pneumovax shot... but my case is being filed at the FDA.

@noodleann
That is the REAL scary thing. Way more scary than this.
I hope you are well now.

Re: BAD RXN TO PNEUMOVAX “UPDATE” 🙀

@LTT1  So glad you're doing better and are under the care of a doctor.

@birdmama   From what I understand, this was an allergic response.  Please don't let someone else's experience keep you from getting the vaccination.  Your doctor can address the concerns you have.

@Bird mama

The pneumovax shot also protects you against meningitis...

The disease is much worse than the shot.

I have had this shot three times all in all, and only this last time had a bad response.

Got the flu shot too... no problemo

@LTT1  Why have you had the shot three times?  I have read many times that it's a one time only vaccine.  Here's one example from a Google search:

How often to get Pneumovax?
There are no live ingredients. For adults who are 65 and over and are otherwise healthy, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention currently recommend a one-time vaccination with the pneumonia shot and no booster shots. However, many doctors do give a second shot 5 to 10 years after the first shot.

Re: BAD RXN TO PNEUMOVAX “UPDATE” 🙀

A word of warning about Levaquin----two years ago I took it for a backterial skin infection and two months later came down with C.Difficile colitis-----it was horrible-----took me over a month to get over it. Remember to take a probiotic--and if you come down with diarrhea, speak to your doctor--even if it is 8 weeks later--don't assume it is nothing. C.Diff colitis is dehydrating and can mess with your kidneys if you get dehydrated--it is also contagious---had to use bleach cleaner in my bathrooms constantly--luckily, my husband did not catch it. Good luck and feel better!!

@NickNack

I got the pneumovax shot in 1988 as a test for antibody levels by my allergist. (They give you the shot, then test for antibodies to see if you produce all categories [IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, IgG4] correctly. I was deficient in IgG1.)

This was time #1.

Time #2 was about 7 years ago.

My doctor wanted me to have it again this year.

Re: BAD RXN TO PNEUMOVAX “UPDATE” 🙀

@LTT1 I hope you feel better.  You've had one heck of a time, haven't you?  My grandma used to say, "One half doesn't know how the other half lives".

I think she meant we all think our problems in life are THE most difficult but there are other's who are suffering as much and often more.

Take care sweet girl and please let us (me) know how you are doing.....
