It will be all over the news when that happens, I'm sure of that.

Re: Are there any makeshift alternatives to masks?

Reading about mask supply made me think about Thieves Oil.

*** For those with curiosity about Aroma Therapy and an interesting story, look up the historical tale of this blend.  I am NOT proposing this as a substitute/ prevention/ or treatment for anything! ***

@Drythe

I put thieves oil in my nebulizing diffuser and run it for about an hour until it goes throughout my house. I do this during the winter when all the windows are shut. Not so much in the summer. I also put that oil in a spray and use it as a disinfectant.

The story about the oil is fascinating!

Re: Are there any makeshift alternatives to masks?

If people cannot have proper masks, I'm only thinking that something covering our mouths and noses are better than nothing at all.

At the very least, if we have a cold, cough, virus, or worse, we can protect those around us by wearing a folded bandana across our faces.

Mask wearing is going to really mess with face-recognition software...I'm sure law enforcement isn't too happy about that part.

How do you think this will play out?I am hoping that people will be very careful to keep the infection rate down.I hope anyone who is ill will stay home for at least fourteen days after they recover.

@dex

From what I've been reading about the spread here in the US, that's inevitable. CDC officials have suggested that people need to prepare for disruptions to their daily lives, for example closing schools, places of work and delaying elective medical procedures. Social distancing was mentioned in one article I read. That means staying at home rather than going to work or some other kind of social event where people gather. Institutions will have to scale back to essential staffing. These sort of actions will help minimize spreading of the virus. Also mentioned was keeping enough essentials at home to make do for at least two weeks w/o having to go to the stores.

Sounds serious and I think many people are not going to take this seriously enough, which by the time things reach a critical point, panic and chaos might ensue. I feel that at this point the US is in the calm before the storm.

I agree...so many people seem to think this isn't serious.I hope they are right and I won't mind admitting that I overreacted.

I’m guessing these would not be the same people who go to work sick because they are afraid of losing their job?

I see and read so many examples of people acting irresponsibly every day (putting on makeup while driving, etc) that I don’t have a lot of hope for responsible behavior in regards to self-quarantining.
