People ARE getting silly.

Even in China, the COVI mortality rate is low; it'll be even lower here.

But it's encouraging to know that people are buying "cases" of masks, not only contributing to a shortage (and subsequent price gouging) but also contributing 👍to a panic-driven demand which may keep these masks from those who REALLY need them: health care workers.

@Moonlady, it's beyond silly.  People are looking at silly in the rearview mirror.

Yes, the alternative is to revert to the 60's, build a fallout shelter or bunker and live in it for the rest of one's natural life, thereby avoiding contamination by any and all noxious bacteria or viruses...

Re: Are there any makeshift alternatives to masks?

Since most drs on the news now are saying the masks are not going to prevent getting the virus, seems pointless to buy one or make one.

We knew that all along.

CDC was telling us that since the beginning.

Masks are to be used ONLY for those who are already sick.

@phoenixbrd  Well you are right Im sure  Smiley Sad   Was only thinking just a temp thing for a short time if you didnt have the right mask tho??

I used to have an N95 mask and hope i can find it just in case/ Praying we do NOT have a massive outbreak in the USA!!

This is not a temporary thing, though. And unless you plan on wearing an N95 mask everywhere and not eat or drink anything in public, even an N95 mask isn't truly going to keep you from getting sick. I can't decide if wearing masks will make people feel safer or make people feel more afraid and paranoid. Maybe it will be a combo platter with some of each.

The best thing you can do is make sure you wash your hands more and touch your face less. (I've always found an ill-fitting mask makes me touch my face more because it needs adjusting.)

Re: Are there any makeshift alternatives to masks?

I think part of the problem is that the news media keeps showing footage from China and other countries - and everyone is wearing a mask. And to make it worse, most of the masks being worn are just the surgical type that we’ve been told are useless. (Not to mention the folks who have their nose exposed above the mask. How in the heck is that supposed to help?)

I think my HOA would have major objections to a bunker.
