@LTT1

It appears as though your DD and DGC are having sinus and ear infections with some degree of frequency.  Do these occur during or just as a common head cold is resolving?  The reason I ask is that this is not uncommon.  However, I'd be interested in the size and position of the eustachian tubes in both of your "girls" and whether maxillary or frontal sinuses are of sufficient size and volume.  I recall when living in Tulsa for 6 years, that friends would go on and on about the "bad air" that came down from Colorado.  Do you have air quality issues in your metropolitan area?  The kind of issues I'm speaking to are ones of dust, which might carry spores and the like.  Also, do your DD and DGC still have their tonsils?  Have they had bouts of tonsilitis?  This lymph tissue can be the gatherer of so much bad stuff, which then finds its way to the sinuses and ears, if one is prone to such things.

Also, if your DGC is in daycare, even for just one or two days a week, she's going to be exposed to more viruses and bacteria than she would, if at home.  And, of course, what your DGC catches your DD can very well catch.  This is happening to us now.  I've had 7 head colds thus far in 2015.  Ridculous!  I'd usually get one every 3 or 4 years.  Now I'm getting exposed to all of these new bugs to which I have no immunity.  My granddaughter had a head cold, didn't get over it before she got a much worse head cold that dropped into her chest as well.  I convinced my daughter to take her to the doc who said she probably had an andenovirus.  That was last Thursday and she still looks like heck.  What do I think?  Regardless of what the doc said, I honestly believe she has a sinus infection. We'll see.

Regarding "natural cures (through plant therapy or nutrition)" not being researched with a cure in mind. I know that you know that Naturopaths abound and have been of great help to so many.   Natural tinctures and powders are used to great effect.  Some patients indicate a cure has been attained.  However, this appears to depend upon the excellence of the Naturopath.

Along the same vane, many pharmaceuticals are plant-based.  This is where it all started and continues to this day.

With regard to the need to increase resarch with a cure in mind and the need for clinical trials to accomplish this.  Loves, one of the biggest challenges in researching for a cure is that science first has to have a complete grasp on the disease or disorder.  This means taking it beyond the DNA of the disease and learning how it works within our bodies and the triggers it initiates.  We're talking the atomic level here.  Working within the scientific method, scientists continue to work with A + B = C,  simply put, C being the cure, which is not an easy thing to obtain by any means.

The cost of clinical research is astounding.  Oh, there's money out there, but it's being allocated for special in.......ts who spend $$ making vam___ movies.  It's terribly disheartening.  Clinical research in a big way is rather new to the stage.  In years past, it was done on a much smaller scale.  It wasn't until what many fear as big pharma came along and universities/medical schools/stand-alone operations really geared up operations, that we saw an increase in the amount of research being conucted in the U.S.

"Managing chronic conditions through nutrition."  Perhaps this book of which you speak deserves to be brought to the front once again.  I wonder how many folks on these forums would snatch it up?  Perhaps you could mention the title, authors and publisher.

Have you checked out some of the resources available at Baylor - checked out their website?  Also, let me see if I can find out who the experts are in the field of ENT(sinuses/ears) and I'll get back to you.  May take some days to get in touch with formr colleagues.

@sfnative  Thank you for your insights concerning this.

The book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" (Balch)

is the book I have...  and Whole Foods has a copy of these out as a reference.

The author did lose her husband, I believe, who collaborated on the first editions.  He was an MD I believe.

The amount of information they have is astounding.

Way back when (30 years ago) they mentioned the allergic triad "(Allergy, asthma, eczema) and other conditions that were suspect within the grouping.

So, they contended, someone manifesting eczema would be at risk for allergy and asthma.

It makes me nearly nauseous that I have seen at least 30 specialists for migraine (all my life until Meno set in); sinus infections; constant colds (every month); and symptoms of chronic fatigue/fibromyalgia.  Are DD and DGC going to battle this stuff too?

Yes, at first in their new location in PA, the doctors said they had a "viral URI."  Well, we knew better.  After several rounds of augmentin (which our asthma-allergist said was like pouring water on these ear/sinus infections now) the MD in their area has started Ceftin... the best antibiotic for my sinusitis.

But why, after all of these specialists, is medicine no further in "curing" these seemingly "nagging" "minor" infections?

I have a theory, certainly unproven, but do dust particles, viruses and bacteria "blow" across the country on the Arctic flow and end up in PA (in the mountains).  They have been ill since January.

We visited there three times since January... each time I got ill with an unresolved sinus infection.

Questions abound...

Hi Loves,

It was a busy day today.  Amongst other things, I was able to see my Internist regarding the recent low back incident with pain radiating down and including my foot.  She was really great.  Believed every word I said and told me she wasn't going to evaluate my right leg, as I would be driving home in terrible pain.  She could already see that I have to walk stooped over - can't straighten up.  This is ridiculous, Loves!  I have so much I want to get done and I'm unable to do any of it due to this nerve pain.  She's got me going in for a lumbar MRI, then a neurosurgical consult with the doc I've already seen regarding my cervical spine.  Wish it could just happen quicker.  I am an ortho mess!!!

Due to today's schedule and our granddaughter with us all day tomorrow, I won't be able to give proper thought to your last entry until Wednesday. (How am I going to get through tomorrow?)  This is not the way I like to do business, but will have to wait this time out.  Look for me on Wednesday.

(I hear what you're saying about your DD and DGC.  Since we moved to Portland it's been horrible.  This year alone I've had 7 colds and one bout of pneumonia.  What!?  My daughter has many friends who've moved here and they all get sick, sick, sick for several years, then life gets better.  Well, I'm counting on that "life gets better" business, I can tell you!)

"Talk" to you on Wednesday.  ((((((HUGS))))))

Hey everyone!

I feel horrible about not being here but since the new and improved forum came about, I either can't log on at all or can't stay logged on for any length of time. I also have the page jumping issue that gives me a horrible headache after a few minutes.

I've missed a lot here so need to catch up with the posts on this thread and Rebecca, I'm terribly sorry to hear that you have a new disc herniation and will add this to my list of things to pray for.

I will end here for fear of losing my post but will be back again soon.

God Bless friends

Hi lobstergal!!!!!!!!!!!!

So glad to "see" you here.  Believe me I know what you're talking about when you mentioned the page jumping.  Many forum members have experienced this.  I not only had page jumping, but had text over text.  Just 3 weeks ago. my husband told me to install "AVG Free."  This is a free software that you can google and install on your computer.  It looks for and removes all sorts of bad stuff in your computer and stuff coming into your computer.  Once I installed AVG Free,  things got so much better.  It's really easy to install.  Since you're having a problem reading, I'll just say that my doc put in a STAT order for an MRI, so will have that this Thursday and she's already referred me to a neurosurgeon.  Hope your computer/this site gets better for you soon.

God Bless ~ Rebecca

@Glass Lady K

We had our granddaughter all day today.  She's still suffering the awful effects of a second bad headcold within one month. We didn't know whether to expect a half-sick kid or what.  Actually, she was all stopped up, but aside from low energy, her mood was good.  I wanted to share the following with you.

**After lunch today, we went outside to take a nature walk around our beautiful condo community.  When we returned home, our granddaughter looked at me and said, "It's a lovely day!"

**Directly after her nap, my GD wanted to sit on the potty chair and have me read her 2 books.  When we were done with the books, she went screaming down the hall yelling, "I'm so happy!!!"

**Late in the afternoon, I asked my GD if she would help Opa make me a cup of coffee.  (That second topiramate in the afternoon simply puts me to sleep.)  So, they both headed out into the kitchen to make that cup of coffee.  Opa always goes through all of the steps with her and now she gets to dump the coffee into the coffee maker.  After all was said and done, she got down off of her step-stool, ran into the livingroom, ploppd down on her Mickey Mouse sofa and said, "I worked SO fast!"

This kid cracks me up.  I have to keep reminding myself that she just turned 2 two and a half weeks ago.  She is certainly a blessing in our lives.

instagram rain is a good thing.jpg

This is one of the "apples of our eye" and I can relate to your post!

She is 21 months and really is beginning to understand the meanings of words.  Of course, EVERY NEW THING she does is a miracle to us... LOL

So, when we visited last month, she ran around saying "happy, happy, happy" in a rather non-sensical manner.  But her mood changed from cranky to happy! : )

Learning about potty is still pretty much in process, but it is interesting that she is working thru the process at her own speed!

The health report... all of them are now on Ceftin and DD is not "holding back" about continuing to see the MD until they get well.

The most surprising thing about retirement for me is this:

I DON'T REALLY CARE ABOUT ANYTHING ELSE BUT THOSE GDs!  small heart outline orange 25 pix.jpg

Oh, how I miss those two little rug-rats!
