Re: Anyone have this problem trying to sleep ?

I use 4 pumps Life-Flo Magnesium Oil Spray on my legs every night.

It really works for muscle spasms plus helps you sleep.

If you use too much magnesium it will give you diarrhea.

I take Magnesium every night before bed & sleep like a baby.  I have no trouble falling asleep & staying asleep (unless I need to go pottie)!  I highly recommend this liquid version.

The jerking is not a disorder but a normal reaction when you fall asleep. However, not being able to sleep is a disorder.

This bears repeating.

THE JERKING AS YOU FALL ASLEEP IS 100% NORMAL!!!

IT IS NOTHING TO BE WORRIED ABOUT  OR CONCERNED ABOUT!

IT HAPPENS TO ME ALMOST EVERY NIGHT, AND I TAKE NOTHING FOR IT.

I am glad for you , I am 63 and never had this severety before , and if you look at the one posters link , it does have a medical name. It is good to know it isn't life threatening , but it is a problem for some people.

No, it is NOT a problem!

It is NATURAL & NORMAL!

There is nothing wrong!

It is a natural part of falling asleep.

And yes, I know it has a name.

I provided YOU a link to read about it.

Did you?

Just because it has a name, does NOT mean that something is wrong!

There was an article in a major newspaper last week that discussed the " hypnic jerk " you described that occurs when you are trying to fall asleep.  It mentioned that it normally occurs when you begin to fall into a deep sleep state....if I remember correctly.

DH has this occurring at least once a week.  It is a natural thing.

Getting awakened from the normal jerking might happen because your sleep pattern is abnormal and shallow enough to make you more aware of the jerking happening. Jerking is normal and you probably haven't noticed it until now for some reason. The problem is not the jerking but rather a sleep pattern disorder which may need some medical attention to resolve.

You are absolutely 100% correct!

You're laying in bed, still have conscious thoughts, and you're juuuuuuust abouuuut to lose consciousness, when, JERK!

In other words, you're not 100% asleep yet, you almost are, but not quite, when the jerk happens.

Normal.

Yes in have read the word normal several times , the point i am trying to make mine is much more frequent and  i can not fall asleep now. If someone is under a lot of stress it can become worse when your muscles and nerves are already on edge. So thanks for all the well meaning comments , and the other non intentioned comments. I would not have posted this if it was not a problem for me right now. I am so glad this is not a problem for most people , i get it. I do see where cloxopine is used for some cases , so obviously it is a problem for other people besides me.
