Re: Anyone else have a hard time sleeping due to pain?

My husband has had osteoarthrits for years. He has had a knee replacement and three months ago he developed arthrits in his neck. It keeps him awake at night and he hasn't had a decent night's sleep for months. He has gone to PT, ehich has helped a little but less than two weeks ago he had a cortisone injection to reduce infammation. It did not work. He sees our family doctor again today to get a referral to our local hospital's pain clinic, where he hopes to get a plan of PT, exercise, and meds to alleviate the discomfort. He has already seen a specialist and he had an MRI so we know what is causing the pain. There's no cure but all these sleepless nights are taking their toll on both of us.

I don't have chronic pain like you all do but I do have occasional hip pain and sometimes have trouble sleeping because of that. two things that have helped me a great deal are taking a Tylenol PM or Advil PM ( or the generic equivalent: Tylenol or Advil with a Benadryl) and our memory foam mattress topper. these things might help you also.

Yes, unfortunately. There isn't a position that I am completely comfortable in, always an underlying pain.

For me the ones that most effected my sleep? My several bouts with fractured ribs and what "runners" call "Black Toenail"! My body is riddled with osteo-arthritis, but this has never effected my body's ability to sleep.

Re: Anyone else have a hard time sleeping due to pain?

I have knee pain on the left and hip pain on the right. Some nights are better than others. I am on Xeralto so, NSAID's are a no-no. However, occasional use is okay. I also take Ambien and have for years. It usually takes me half an hour to hour to fall asleep and that takes care of the pain.

Re: Anyone else have a hard time sleeping due to pain?

I just saw my rheumatoid MD, who says basically my body on the whole has arthritis and has osteoarthritis, he feels that my left thumb should have a hand surgeon see to it. I have already had both total knees done, they are somewhat better, but I am not having more pain with a questionable outcome. I just have to deal with pain every day!

Re: Anyone else have a hard time sleeping due to pain?

I have been dealing with chronic back pain for 10 years now. Two years ago my shoulder started to tingle occasionally and my neck hurt bSaw my ortho for regular visit and happened to mention it to him. He had me x-rayed within minutes! Turns out I have two herniated disks now. I do have arthritis in back, neck and hands. I wake up at night due to the pain. I see a pain management doctor regularly. Other things such as PT, acupuncture, water therapy did nothing to help. I will say that one item that helps with the neck pain is the MyPillow I purchased the very first time it was a TSV. I can work with it so my neck is fully supported when I get into bed. I love that these pillows are machine washable and dryable.

I don't have the kind of pain you are talking about, but I have a chronic bladder condition that causes me to 'go' between 8 and 10 times per night. I am beyond exhausted to say the least. After the holiday I am beginning to get meds instilled in my bladder via catheter to hopefully help alleviate some of the pain and frequency. I am about nuts at this point.

If you haven't previously, you may want to Google Xarelto for lawsuit info.
