Anybody have a 'flipper' for missing tooth ?

I'm gonna get a one tooth flipper for a on the upper side of mouth as soon as they get around to pulling

a fractured tooth I have.

My question is are they comfortable ? I'd prefer the

acrylic type. I tried a bridge before, but , that wire hook I couldn't get used to it.

Do you wear yours all the time ? Can you eat with it in?

I know U take out at night and put in water. I would just wear mine when I'm going out to shop or church.

Any information from somebody who has been there before I would appreciate.

I can't have a implant because I'm on Fosamax for osteoporosis . Flipper is lot cheaper too.

I had one when I was getting an implant.  It's like wearing a retainer.  I kept mine in all the time--including when I slept. I hated having that gaping hole (it was a front tooth).  I don't think they are uncomfortable, just something to get used to.  I ate with it in.

@SharkE

One time when I had a flipper, it was only temporary.  I was able to get the missing tooth bridged in.  I didn't like it.  Mine was uncomfortable and they have to be removed any time you eat.

This has been several years ago.  Perhaps they are different now than around 2014.

I was supposed to get one while my implant took 3 to 4 mos to be ready, mine was a canine tooth, but my perio who extracted it is such a genius he actually made me a canine tooth out of white plastic and inserted it for the few months I had to wait. Never had to do anything with it or remove it.

Wow!  I didn't even know they could do that!  I sure wish my dentist had been had been smart enough to do this.  It would've certainly made life a lot easier.

I wore one the majority of last year while going through an implant process for a front tooth.  I was told NOT to eat with it or sleep with it. It was not uncomfortable.

I know, my regular dentist calls this perio a true genius, my regular dentist had already taken the measurements for the flipper but the perio said you wont need it, I can do a lot better, and he did, he connected it to the abutment done after the extraction. But it is only made to last for a few months until the crown can be done.

Re: Anybody have a 'flipper' for missing tooth ?

When I was told you have to wait half the yr. for a implant I said * on that.  Being on Fosamax they want you to quit it a month before and not take it again till

a month after everything.

Didn't want to do that either. I didn't think it would take that long. This just the surgeon bill was gonna be almost 3,000 not counting the cost of the crown when it would be finally able to be implanted that would be another 1,000-1,500.

Flipper way is less then 1,000. I'm a widow and just will wear it when I go out in public/church. I'm private pay.

I'm 72 and be my luck to kick the can day after I had the implant and crown. What a waste ! LOL
