I still floss, but I do use the WaterPik - I originally bought it because I had to have deep cleaning done on my teeth. They scheduled another appointment for 6 months out and when I went back (after using the WaterPik for 5 months), the pockets were all rated 2 and 3 instead of 4 and 5 like I had.

If mine told me to stop using it, I wouldn't.

Used to have bad dental habits and dreaded the hygienist appointment - we used to call it the bloodletting! Finally, had to have "planing & scaling" done over 2 visits, both with numbing beforehand. Hygienist gave me a Waterpik which I started to use with alcohol-free Pro-health added to the water. Started out with warm water and the regular strength nozzle kept close to gum line. My teeth felt so clean I didn't even want to get a small piece of candy later!!! My next and subsequent cleanings were unbelievably good: never used floss. If you add mouthwash to the device, rinse it out when done and let the nozzle totally empty out. HTH.

What strength is your dial set on? You should do it as as high a setting as you can take. Also aim the pick closer to your gum line, and go around each tooth. But you should spend more time at the gum line. At least this is what my dentist has instructed me on how to use this. He also said to fill the container up with water, and just focus on the top teeth front and back. Then fill the container up again and focus on the bottom front and back.
